Actually the opposite, the quality of the CB has gone up. There are tens of current CB that have the long balls of Koeman or the speed of Maldini.

However, the attacking players have improved drastically. Just compare one of the best 90's forward, Stoitchkov, who is not better than current Pedro.

Are you suggesting that in all sports, the athletes have become way better since the last 30 years, but in football they've become worse?

Just because football isn't an objective sport, like running or swimming, doesn't mean we have to be blind at the clear improvement of the athletes, who are much better now than in 1995 in general.

No. But we're talking about 90s football here, not 50s. Maldini played in the 80s against Maradona as well as in the CL final in 2007 and was voted defender of the year by UEFA despite being way past his prime and 40 years old. So that current players must be "much better" than 90s footballers just because "sport evolution" is a stupid notion and hence belongs in this thread. That might be valid for 50s footballers.
