AC Milan sold to chinese investors
It’s reported Silvio Berlusconi has privately admitted that selling Milan to Chinese investors is a 'done deal'.
Despite the head of one of the parties thought to be interested distancing himself from any takeover, it’s believed that an agreement has been reached with some Chinese investors.
AskaNews claims that Berlusconi has said in private meetings that “the sale of 75 per cent of Milan is a done deal”, with only a few months needed to iron out the details.
The news agency reports that the deal would be worth around €1 billion, with Berlusconi’s daughter Barbara retaining her role as CEO.
It is not clear whether current joint-CEO Adriano Galliani would be asked to stay on as part of the agreement.
AskaNews believes that the Chinese government is playing a large role in the operation, in order to promote football in the country, with the long-term aim of making the national team a major world power.
Milan are said to be the most popular team in China, so the acquisition of the club would be viewed as an important step along this road.
Berlusconi is reportedly set for another meeting with the investment group at his Arcore residence in the next 24 hours.

Re: AC Milan sold to chinese investors
Italian football has been making some terrific strides over the last 12-24 months to get the league back on track to again be competitive. However I would be very surprised to see this happen I think Milan fans will have to wait until Silvio is in a wooden casket 12 feet deep for new owners

Actually I read one or two days ago that China plan to make football a mandatory sport for the kids at their schools. If they pull that through, I'd expect them to be able to churn out quite a lot of very capable players.Raptorgunner wrote:with the long-term aim of making the national team a major world power.

The AC Milan's selling is as the Fidel Castro's death , you read it at least 3 times every week but it never happens.

Of course Fidel is alive. He even made a public statement this January, basically calling the US Government a bunch of liars. F*cking legend.

Looks like it
Sky claims the deal will be closed out next Sunday, 20% initial acquisition with the option of increasing it to 65% next year.
Even the club is being bought on loan with an option to buy

Re: AC Milan sold to chinese investors
Berlu retaining honorary presidency means even now I will not support them. Ffs
Also 1B euros seems ridiculously excessive, even with a very strong Milan brand there is no way to justify that price tag, this Bee guy seems to have more money than sense.

Re: AC Milan sold to chinese investors
Well that 20% is still ~250m euros.
Compare that to PSG where the whole club was bought for a meager 40m euros.

I'm no wizz when it comes to financial stuff, but a 300m stadium project in the works and 250m in debt, doesn't that increase the club's valuation?

Those are future expenses, they should decrease the value of the club, not increase it.

The stadium is an investment, no? Doesn't it lie under assets since its going to generate future revenue?

Re: AC Milan sold to chinese investors
This operation is around 1.2 billion euros, probably more than Erik Thohir's turnover.
These investors arent exactly carrying chump change.

Yes, once it is built, it will be an asset. Right now it's cash (or debt, depending on how it's financed). But most stadiums usually have a negative return unless there is some sort of government subsidy, simply because a 20k seat expansion is unlikely to pay off 300m euros*, no matter how many shops and luxury boxes you add.El Shaarawy wrote:The stadium is an investment, no? *This is always being compared to interest rates, and I should note that interest rates are ridiculously low right now, so who knows, maybe it's financially sustainable, but I wouldn't expect it to add a significant amount of value.

Aha, thanks for clearing that up then.
Still, 1 billion is a measly price to pay for one of the most successful clubs in the world

Re: AC Milan sold to chinese investors
Not surprised a president called Bee didn't buy us but the Milan
jokes aside, BC is totally agreed . If it will be true, unreal deal by Berlusconi.
Milan is the Italian club with strongest brand, but Serie A hasn't same appeal than other leagues because it is an old league with reduced chances to increase revenues than EPL or Liga, Milan hasn't even a s club-owned stadium , it has debts , team needs to be very improved to be competitive .. i don't have idea why it should cost 1B

Valuing AC Milan at (over) €1bn sounds to me like good ol' Italian and East Asian money laundering
