Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
You guys know a bit about rugby.
I saw that Japan beat South Africa. Can someone translate what kind of upset this is into football terms for me?

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Well you can't really translate rugby into football at least not that easily.
See Japan rugby is basically China football. They have the investment in their respective sports and the fanbase is growing. Only thing Japan rugby has is that the big older players go to play there once they have finished winning stuff or just started hitting their decline in SA, NZ, Aus, Europe. A bit like what you would call American soccer.
And South Africa (with 2 World Cups in their bag - joint most along with NZ and Aus) has always been one of the best/leading nations in the world of rugby. So you can call them Germany football.
So that's basically the equivalent of China beating Germany in a FIFA world cup. But then again football has such smaller margins, we have seen some upsets in fifa world cups before. This one is most probably the biggest upset ever in RWC history, you would usually expect a big nation such as SA to beat opposition such as Japan 50-10 or something.
Also Japan has only ever won one world cup match before and that was against Zimbabwe (third best nation in Africa after SA and Namibia) who somehow made the world cup that year. And to illustrate the gap to between these 3 I'll use prime internet language:
SA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Namibia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Zimbabwe

Same man, still getting adjusted to school and work but it seems like it will be a really good semester
Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
I think Germany is more like the All Blacks, tbh.
South Africa would be a Spain, Brazil or France.
Also it was a late come from behind win, so imagine scoring 2 late goals against Spain to win you the match.

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
No that's not true. South Africa is a really great rugby nation. If there is one team that has the number over NZ, it's them. Spain, Brazil, France are powerful football nations, but you can hardly be surprised if they lost to minnows these days. The comparison just doesn't sit right. Like I said, it's not that easy to translate rugby into football.

I agree, Rugby isn't like football.
But it is like a top tier team losing to a random team from an obscure league by two late goals.

Woggier
Adjective: Used to describe a person, place, object etc which contains more gold, oil, aftershave, hair product, chest hair or equivalent. How much more hektik does he look now that he's gotten woggier
