It is good signing imo. Specially when they are facing injury crisis all over the team now :coffee:

I have to side with Hans on this one, it's a sensible signing which given significant injury issues ensures that Bayern have a highly experienced, tactically suitable midfielder who will not stand in the way of Guadino and Hojberg in the future but instead allow them to be slowly blooded. Whilst talented, it's important that they are not subjected to a heavy workload at such a young age which can often lead to issues later on.

As for the issues that has led to Bayern's midfield requiring such reinforcement, there is no point crying over spilled milk at this stage. It strengthens the team for the upcoming season, so regardless of whether there were better ways to manage the market overall, in the closing days of the transfer window it's an excellent move.

Well, supposedly Bayern will pay Real 10 mio for Xabi Alonso, so that's not half bad for a short-term replacement. It's impressive again how fast the deal was concluded, btw.

I agree with that, and that's why I'm not making fun of Xabi or anything, but there has to be a certain point of criticism aimed at Bayerns transfer policies ever since Peps signings.

In all honesty, the signings have puzzled me, however each has addressed a need and the players deserve a chance to prove themselves before judgement is passed.

Happy to pick up the scraps in a year :coffee:

I get that viva, I don't want to disqualify your criticism of Pep, but I don't agree with it.
Also I feel that the record doesn't support it nearly as much as you claim, but mostly I hope future results and performance will prove you wrong..

It does help that I want to see Bayern fail (domestically) anyway.

sure lol, but then let's keep reality and fantasy apart.
Because winning the league in record time is not failing domestically.

So it seems to me you're mad Pep is doing so well domestically, and you try to get paradoxically both gratification and reinforcement of your stance of resentment out of our 'failure' in the CL, as there you're torn :coffee:

But which signings have puzzled you exactly?
Getting Thiago and Götze, while selling Gomez and Gustavo?
Getting Lewandowski and Rode, while selling Mandzukic?
Getting Bernat and selling Contento?
Getting Reina as back up gk?
Now getting Benatia, since van Buyten retired and Javi is out?

I think that is all good stuff.
The only thing that is bothering me is losing Kroos, but it's unclear how much we could do there.

Alonso is a really good signing if you ask me, as good as any backup holding midfielder can be. Bayern look very strong this season, especially when everyone returns from injury.

I hope Pep keeps messing with formations though, seems like the only way to stop them winning games is self destruction.

In Peps defense, Bayerns worst recent act of business was letting Kroos go, and I'm pretty sure Pep would have preferred to keep him, since he was probably one of the players most fitting to his ideals. From what I gather Kroos was sold as a warning to other players to not go overboard with wage demands.

On the other hand, maybe Pep was okay with it, because Kroos would have prevented his boy Thiago from becoming a starter for the forseeable future, I guess. But that's touching on conspiracy theory level of guess work, so I'll just put that idea out there, and not pretend that it's supported by anything.

I wasn't counting the stuff from last year, the acquisitions of Thiago, Goetze etc were fantastic signings, it was more that I expected a reaction after the loss of Kroos where instead Bayern simply shuffled the bench to an extent, whilst Benatia is a terrific addition to the first team. I don't think you actually needed to make a splash given that Lewandowski was acquired for free, I just expected it anyway. Laughing It was more to do with my expectations for silly season than the soundness of the deals themselves.

Yes, the fact that Lewa was signed on a free, and already in January (and mentally even last summer) was anticlimactic.

But I like it that way, and we've never been that much part of silly season.
I also liked it that we decided to make up for Kroos with giving youngsters more time, and possibly trying to fulfill Alaba's wish of playing midfield.
Also I don't know who we could've bought to replace him. Of course, we'd have taken probably either one of Verratti, Pjanic maybe, Pogba, or Ramsey lol but then none of those was casually available Laughing

But then man makes plans and god laughs, or what's the saying.

finished 3-2, Dortmund could have won by more but the the likes of Aubameyang and Mikitharyan were poor in the final third. Subotic is crap nowadays, Hummels can't come back soon enough. They look shaky at the back without him.

I thought Sokratis was better. Ginter will also develop in 1-2 years.

Subotic will face massive competition and I expect Sokratis-Hummels to be the starting CB unless Subotic gets back to his best
