Which players should Atletico Madrid buy and sell in the summer?

This is pretty hard to do because we dont know really who is staying and going.

I dont know why anyone would want to leave Simeone at this time, but I guess money talks etc.

I think if they hang on to the back 4 and midfield, especially Koke, they will be fine.

They have to replace Costa and Villa well if they are going, but I think they can. Sounds like they will be losing some depth in Thiago, Deigo, Sosa and co.

Courtois isnt going back to Chelsea to sit on the bench, so if I am them I would wait that situation out. Dont see Chelsea selling Cech this summer.

As Dani said it depends on who leaves so hypothetically I will say that Koke, Arda, Costa, Luis and Courtois will leave. In that case:

Bernat
Negredo
Keylor Navas

Also I would buy another striker to replace Villa, somebody like Rodrigo will be good

they have already signed Angel Correa for that.

Apparently Correa could go out on loan to Rayo Vallecano.

Atleti usually loan out young players like that because under Simeone they will find it hard to get playing time. If Correa is lucky he will take of Adrians/Rodriguez' minutes I.e the first one to come off the bench. No way Simeone trusts this guy to be a starter. Costa was loaned out for like > 4 seasons before he was allowed to come back.

It's surprising all these players would want to leave considering they just won the league and got to the CL final.

A bit like Dortmund really. Although here Atletico probably have debts to pay etc.

Do the players believe their success is a flash in the pan or something?

Its not a lack of belief, they know it isnt luck...but the players also know it wont last forever and traditionally the "big clubs" will have sustained success over time, plus they get paid alot more, more recognition and everything that goes with it.

Money.

At any top club a benchwarmer would get dare I say more than an Atleti starter. You never see an Atleti player take a sidestep move instead they go to a big club. Same as Dortmund players

They should do everything in their power to keep hold of what they've got. It's quite depressing to see most of their better players being constantly mooted to leave.

QPR wage bill is larger then Atleti's

Any players sold will bring good money. In addition, they have CL money as well. They should be able to get good replacements. I wonder what players they would target! ANY IDEAS!!!

They might struggle initially if some regular starters leave.

Obviously they shouldnt sell anyone but if they have to:

1) SIgn Rakitic no matter what. Fantastic player that will immediately fit into what they do, playing behind the striker, in a free role, brilliant counter attacker and improves their quality on dead balls with his delivery.

2) If Diego Costa moves on, Sign Lukaku. Still young, could be had for decent money, physically powerful and good finisher. Enough talent to make individual plays and good value for future resale

3) If Courtois goes, Keylor Navas will be a good buy. I would have said Oblak but doubt benfica let him go. Navas is a brilliant shot stopper, will improve with all the protection he gets from the defense. they lose a little bit on areal threats since he is a shorty but he can handle that job.

4) If Filipe goes, sign Siqueira. Great fullback, can perform with atletico like he did with benfica and granada before.

5) Selling koke is a no no, not this year.

6) Actually adding Vela to this team as a additional threat would be fantastic for them. So that they can reposition Koke in the double pivot and have more threat and speed out wide in games teams will just defend.

Last time Simeone tried Koke in the pivot Atleti go embarrassed. Koke does not have the dicipline to play there. Don't think he will ever try that again

Atleti's attacks go through their fullbacks who act as wingers. Siqueira will never be able to replicate what Luis has done and he is like a year or two younger. Atleti should get Bernat, Ricardo Rodriguez or Moreno if Luis leaves

I have seen him there quite a bit, specially in games where they were chasing a result, he can do it. Maybe it will take more growing pains but he can do it.

Siqueira is probably better attacker than Filipe from what i have seen. Filipe is good, very good even, in terms of how balanced he plays. But he is in no way a brilliant attacker on which Atletico rely to get their attacks flowing. moreno is a scrub that cant defend, same with bernat, and ricardo rodriguez will cost more money than he is worth

If the signing of Griezmann is confirmed, Patetico already have a better team than last year on paper.

Griezmann + Mandzu >>>>>>> Garcia/Villa + Costa

their midfield hasnt changed + Saul Niguez returning, Koke getting better.

In defense they only lost Filipe but Siqueira is a good replacement.

Costa is much better than Mandzukic, Filipe Luis as you said is better than Siquiera but he's okay, Oblak don't know but surely a downgrade from Courtois, I give you Griezmann though good signing better than Villa/Garcia.

yes they have. Ansaldi can play sides and is hopefully better than Insua lol.

Costa is miles better than Mandzukic. I'm not sure people really grasp how well he played last season. He outscored any season Torres, Aguero, Forlan, Hasselbaink, Vieri, Falcao and Hugo Sanchez ever had for Atletico ffs.

Griezmann is a definite improvement on Villa but Oblak and Ansaldi/Siquiera are both HUGE downgrades from Thibu and Luis.
