Liverpool v Newcastle
A couple of days and it's the last day of the season. Often has a feel of wistful sadness about it, like a journey coming to an end, but also relief. This time, for us LFC fans, there's also excitement left for the final day as we still have something to play for; quite remarkably we could still win the Premier League title. It's very unlikely as that would require a West Ham win at Manchester City, but anything's possible in sports.
What is very likely is that we beat this sorry Newcastle side who seem to have had their minds in holiday mode since January.
Mignolet
Johnson - Skrtel - Sakho - Flanagan
Gerrard
Henderson - Allen
Sterling
Sturridge - Suarez
Looking forward to seeing Hendo back, I'm sure he's raring to go after missing three matches, against Newcastle, too, him being a Sunderland fan.
This will be the last time Moses and Cissokho are in the squad. Could this be the last time for anyone else? We don't have players coming to the end of their contracts, unless I've missed something, but there could be some summer departures. Aspas? Kelly? Surely this won't be the last game in a Liverpool shirt for Daniel Agger?
In any case, should be a cracking atmosphere at Anfield and I'm sure the crowd there will send our boys into the summer break / World Cup with massive cheers for what's been a terrific season.

Agger instead of Sakho and Coutinho for Allen, Ive had enough of this diamond formation we always concede like mad when we play this.

Newcastle have failed to win on the final day of the PL campaign in each of their last six seasons. (D2 L4).

Agger has to play because this could possibly be his last game (hopefully not). Don't *bleep* with me on this Brendan.

Re: Liverpool v Newcastle
excited as if this is the first game of the season. The feeling that we are back in CL, that too in style and we have improved leaps and bounds now but we can still improve and that says so much about this season. Let's go and win this game, finishing second just by 2 points behind the league leaders that will be such a massive message to the whole of Europe that we are back in the business.

Re: Liverpool v Newcastle
I just hope City win by 10+ goals.
I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight if they end up drawing and we lose on goal difference, it won't be good for the heart.
Anywho, we'll smash this lot.
Hoep Suarez breaks the record over the 38 game period.

Or even worse, they lose and we don't win :s
But they'll win.
I just want to see a comprehensive win that sends us to off season in good spirits.

Agger does start and Henderson is back. No Remy for Newcastle.

Subs: Jones, Toure, Sakho, Cissokho, Lucas, Coutinho, Aspas
Btw, Allen ahead of Coutinho

That's cool, Allen has done well in the last few games. Although the direct comparison has been with Lucas, so... Anyway, a good performance from Allen would be reassuring.

Re: Liverpool v Newcastle
Well, it wasn't a classic, but feels good to finish with a win.
Skrtel and Agger both with exquisite finishes and I couldn't help laughing when Sturridge scored a carbon-copy of our first goal within two minutes of it. More lols were provided immediately afterwards as Shola uncannily got himself two yellows for dissent in about 10 seconds
We were a little short of ideas and movement in attack, didn't get the SAS involved enough - and when we did, their decision-making wasn't great. Anyone else think that lately Suarez has been trying to pull off some too difficult stuff, whether it be passes or dribbles, and too often losing the ball? Hopefully gets a little back to basics in August.
That's about it for this match. It was a great season, but also draining; I don't think I've previously felt this strongly that the off-season break is very welcome indeed!

Ameobi told the club's official website: "You can't make up the way I was sent off. I still don't know why it happened. I was given a first yellow card for dissent, but for the second one I'm ready to take the restart when the referee has called me back.
"He told me to stop showing dissent, so I told him that I was allowed to plead my case. I asked him 'are you going to send me off for trying to plead my case for my team?' and he said 'yes'.
"I've asked a question and been sent off for that. I'm dumbfounded by it."

Re: Liverpool v Newcastle
I think he asked the question in a sarcastic tone and, as we saw with Mourinho, that counts as dissent, so maybe Dowd did the right thing to sent him off (although it does seem harsh).

Re: Liverpool v Newcastle
btw, I was little disappointed we didnt show enough urgency so Suarez to get his 32nd goal, specially it was more irritating when they were 9 men down

Eh we'll never know, but that sounds like a load of bullshit to me.
