Mandzukic isn't much different to the two you mentioned.

Costa is also better than Mandzukic and Lukaku is already ours. While I'd like a different type of CF, very few are available, unless we pay 60m+ and judging by our recent (last few years) pursuits of Cavani, Rooney et al. We're not willing to pay that much on a single player, don't want another Torres.

So I spent my time at work today thinking about alternatives to Luis and Pogba.
Then I realised I mentioned the perfect one before, Daley Blind.

Hear me out, Blind isn't as good as either Luis or Pogba BUT he is is perfect for us. He could also be available for as little as 12m (Link to price) and is only 24. For those of you who are unfamilar with Blind, he is a DM who can also play at LB, or is he a LB who can also play in DM? . He is equally adept at both roles and spent almost equal time in either role last season. I have mostly seen him play at DM but I have seen him on occasions play at LB, while I prefer him at DM, he is a solid LB.

His greatest strength is his passing ability, it is, by all accounts, fantastic. He is also good at intercepting the ball and is not shy when it comes to tackling. He is pretty mobile for a DM, and while not the strongest, he is great tactically and I think Jose could get the best out of him.

So here is why I would like us to purchase him. We, by all accounts, do not have 1 starting XI, we have 2. The first starting XI is the team that runs out against the big teams. The obvious problem with this team is now we do not have Luiz to sit next to Matic. Ramires, Mikel or MVG cannot do the same job. That is where Blind comes in, he is tactically astute enough to play the 'Luiz pivot' role and due to his great passing, we won't compromise on passing from the pivot with him there.

Something like this would work:

Cech/Courtois
Ivanovic Cahill Terry Azpilicueta
Blind Matic
Willian Oscar Hazard
Costa

The only problem with this lineup is that Ivanovic is still our attacking fullback, but considering his impressive defencive ability, I am not worried about that in these types of games.

The second starting XI is the team which runs out against the minnows, you know, the one that struggled so badly last season? The one which Cesc and Costa will hopefully fix. This kind of team wouldn't need Blind as much and he could play back up to Azpilicueta, or be our attacking fullback. Depending on the form of Ivanovic.

Something like this is possible:

Cech/Courtois
Ivanovic Cahill Terry Azpilicueta
Matic
Willian Cesc Oscar Hazard
Costa

Blind can always slot in at LB with Azpilicueta moving to RB, or he could replace Matic if he needs a rest.
This way, we keep the best defence in the league together, while adding a versatile player who can cover two of the problem positions for us. Due to his versatility, we won't need to get rid of any CM's either, while you guys won't like that, Ramires and Mikel add something different and are useful players. All for 12m, 8m less than Luis and 48m less than Pogba.

With both Utd (probably not so much now) and Liverpool linked to him, I am surprised to not see us after him, or at the very least, interested in him.

I can understand that, ultimately, Hazard or Willian would more or less fore fill that kind of role. I've always wanted Aguero, he'd be the kind of player for that role. However, He isn't available. I don't think we'll sign that kind of player.

Which role will Tiago play? Backup of Matic? We already have Mikel, Ramires for that role. If rumors are to be believed we will sign another CM to partner with Matic. Then there are also Van Ginkel, Cesc and Oscar. Got some exciting kids at youth team also. So, Mikel or Ramires must be leaving.

I once heard Inter were interested about Mikel. Any update?

I think he'll play the Lampard role. an Experienced head to play when needed, most likely alongside Matic at times.

Also, Mikel recent said he was happy here and doesn't want to move, so I doubt he will leave.
