Actually, Sahin would play Di Maria's position perfectly IMHOSepi wrote:deezydeez wrote:Sepi wrote:now, we are buying a specialist LW (probably Downing) who can cross a ball for AC and beat a man, so that leaves Raul outta the position. AM is occupied by Suarez, and Lucas and Gerrard are nailed on for central midfield. That's why I think he'd be more of a squad player, and considering we aren't in Europe (means 50 games in a season MAX)..then it makes the whole thing a bit more interesting
So you prefer a central midfielder with no ability to beat a man or deliver a cross over a out and out winger in a LW position ?
It's like saying, let's play Sahin in place of Di Maria....

^^
Except that it was becauseh e was worn out because of playing 90% of the time since his debut at 18 year old. It's not like he is injury prone, it was his worst season in terms of injuries. and now he has a 5 month rest (last game was March 6th)....and had a groin operation properly (instead of injections he had to take before and made the problem worse).....he could have finished the season, but Kenny decided to give him a rest for the last 7-8 games of the season, so he can have a long rest and fully recover from hernia operation.
and if you weren't impressed with Gerrard under Roy, then you would be disgusted with Meireles under Roy .
Even when were in the relegation zone with Roy (bad memories), Gerrard was the only player who a head of shoulder above the rest of an out of confidence and out of ideas team, before Capello's asshole-ishness in a friendly, got him injured for 6 weeks.
Gerrard just turned 31 a month ago....It's not like he is a grandpa.
He'll make a lot of people look silly next season.

Are you serious mate ?
so you'd prefer a passing midfielder, than a quick, skillfull wide man in a WIDE position ?
Strange, well, unless you're barcelona, where Iniesta plays wide sometimes. It doesn't happen much in English football.
Imagine Ferguson benching Valencia for Fletcher for a RW position. Width is a very important part of the game in Premier League. Can't remember the last time a team won the league without a Wide attacking player (be it Winger, or Side Attacker) having a superb season.

Sepi,
1. If you have that much faith in Gerrard, good for you. I don't support pool, so I could care less, but I really don't rate him anymore...
2. Sahin's dribbling is amazing, not sure if you've seen him, and he's not terrible when it comes to putting the ball in the air either. Comparing him to fletcher would be ridiculous, they are not alike. Sahin will be playing wide for madrid, as I would guess in a 433.

If they do sell him, they would be making a very big mistake.
He didn't have the best of starts, but in the second half of last season,He played rather well for Liverpool and shouldn't simply be dismissed.
