Found his level. He needs to be a big fish in a small pond and even then he always starts well. Let's see where Mario is after 1 year with Nice.

He had like 11 goals in first 10 games for Milan when he went from City. They got rid of him in a year.

Nice are a very offense oriented team and create a lot of chances, Germain and Ben Arfa ended up with 32 goals between them last year.

Nice are well managed at the moment. Ballotelli benefiting from Lucien Favre's management. Also Ligue 1 is perfect for him. He can build up from where he fell seasons ago.

He got injured though and that is where the problems started. He needs to just dedicate himself to the sport and avoid injury.

Also a good sign that 3 of these goals were from open play. From what I remember he scored quite a lot goals from set pieces for Milan, basically had a few good free kicks (I know free kicks are a quality but he was just pushing way above his quality with something like 3 or 4 goals from free kicks in a few games) and was allowed to take a few penalties which made his stats look a lot better than what he offered.

But of course 2 games are a bit too early to get excited. Still good signs. He alway had talent.

His general play is the same, methinks. It's his state of mind that has improved. That alone has allowed him to improve his overall performance. Ballotelli was never lacking in the talent department. He just needed someone who could utilize him best. Someone mentioned this, and I concur wholeheartedly, that he has the spotlight role in the team right now. And it's true. Ballo's a player who needs that sort of backing to be used to his max. That, and couple with Ligue 1 style, suits him. Favre's trust in Ballo is probably the trigger Ballo needed to improve his state of mind. Right now I'm convinced of it anyway.

He is doing well in Ligue 1. I think he needs to spend more time there before going back to PL.

His 2nd yellow card has been overturned.

Favre plays a system that works really well for him. It's a 352. Balo is one of two strikers with Plea. Both have a lot of room to operate. BUT, it also requires a lot of discipline and Balo is showing pitch discipline for the first time ever. Never thought I'd see the day.

I'll say it again... he's making CF moves and runs. That's why he's getting open and scoring. What are those? diagonal runs behind the CBs, hold up play, running between the CBs to get open for crosses, peeling off the back shoulder of the CB, etc.

His work rate isn't fantastic. But it's far more than i've seen it.

HOWEVER, like Ben Arfa, I think it's going to be very difficult for him to play on a team with multiple stars. He needs the freedom as the attacking centerpiece. He can't play a role because he doesn't know how to play a role. For this reason, I think going to a big club would be a huge mistake for him. If he wants to move up, he needs to go to places like Sevilla, Spurs, etc. Good clubs that would cater to his talent since he would be the most talented striker there.
