Are Madrid the Real Deal?
Or RYAAAAL DYAAAAL we should say in these parts of the world.
Since the Valencia-Real Madrid fixture back in late December in which they let in 3 goals they've since conceded just 3 goals in their last 13 fixtures.
I don't know how he did it but Ancelotti managed to finally put together a solid Madrid backline...something even Mourinho wasn't able to do.
Their midfield which looked like crap earlier on in the season actually looks amazing since the decision to bench Isco and move Di Maria into central midfield & Alonso's return. While Modric is arguably the best CM in the entire world on current form.
We all know how good Ronaldo and Bale are but it's Jese who's making all the headlines while Benzema looks like he's finally regained his goalscoring touch (his overall performances still aren't as devastating as his Lyon days imo)

Fifa reference.... ewww.
Anyway, the midfield is still a huge issue, Di Maria playing there will not work against the better teams and it will be exposed and exploited to the fullest.
There are still improvements to be made.

Yeh, we're still not at our peak yet. We've kept clean sheets, but it's mainly against poor La Liga attacks. I'd like to see us do it vs top teams. Also I want to see how we do against a side who press well and keep the ball.

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid has reached a total of 100 goals quicker than any other 'Los Blancos' side in the past 54 years. In fact not since a legend called Miguel Muñoz was the club's manager has any Madrid side managed any better.

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
We were impressive vs Atletico in terms of imposing our style, however I just don't think they had enough individual quality to threaten our defense. They're good defensively, but possession/chance creation wise they weren't better than any other La Liga side we've played.

Not a single Barca supporter claims Barca's defense is good.

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
The defence is the best I've seen it.
Ever.
Which to be fair, isn't saying that much considering what has went on the last decade or so, but worth something.
Though, the minute we meet a half decent defence I could see the slowness hindering us. The attack is just not going to be able to break down teams other than through quick transitions.

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
Every year they are real deal, yet it almost decade they didn't win CL.Last five years they only manage to win 1 La Liga. we will see what happen end of the season.
Whenever, real madrid manage to play 10-15 good games, they are the best in every department. Modric? best midfielder,Pepe?best defender, is it even a question?.Marcelo? best left back in the world. Varane? you can only compare him to maldini.
IMO Most overrated club in the last decade.

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
Keeping an eye on this one...please don't turn this into a Barcelona vs Madrid thread.

Overrated and still relevant. Seriously, why bother posting something of no value, it would just get the thread locked faster.
I don't consider Real the real deal mainly because I've been down this road before. With that being said, the whole defensive line actually is clicking without the need to get dirty or nasty (under Mou). Di Maria would get exposed by teams with more potent midfield force but at this point, he is doing well. Modric is having a good season so far but he is a flaky peacock so I expect to see him suffer the same fate as Di Maria (hopefully not though).
Ronaldo is still Ronaldo, take that as you will. Benzema is actually doing the best he can possibly do at this point, fair credit to him. All in all, the signs are there but this song has been sung before...

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
Its been since forever the last time i saw us consistently playing the ball out of defense so calmly, retaining possession, stringing 10-15 passes, team defending, the attack is coming together slowly hopefully the team work there improves, along with movement between the forwards.
Carlo is doing a good job, took him a while to settle on the 4-3-3, but it was understandable(isco, khedira injured). Our defensive shape is good for once, we can invite pressure without being cut apart 7/10 times .

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
I feel like Madrid needs some kind of central, attacking midfielder. They'd need a sort of playmaker, who would support Bale, Cristiano, and Benzema with brilliant through balls, who's also great at keeping the ball, so they can sort their tactics whenever they get pressured. Give the opposition a fourth attacker to really worry about, draw defenders out of position.
That guy wouldn't even have to put in a lot of leg work, being covered by Xabi, and all, also the defese is looking great as a unit. If only such a player existed!

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
spot on Viva, it's exactly something we need. Di Maria is doing a great job atm, but in a ideal world, that role is for an attacking CM with a bit of work rate.
Well, when Kroos decides to jump ship we will be there. there isnt a tremendous amount of quality in footy in that role atm.

Re: Are Madrid the Real Deal?
Okay, obvious trollery aside, Kroos would be the best thing to ever happen to you guys, especially because of the tactical flexibility he'd bring. But I really think Bayern are holding onto the kid. If not, I'd really throw all the cash at him you have, because he's basically Özil, except for 90 minutes, and with defensive work rate.

Modric and Ramos were both a yellow away from accumulating 5 yellows
Next game Elche the game after Atleti Ramos tried the footballing way aka late fouls, multiple fouls, shirt tugs but the reff was having non of it lmao. The guys is obviously an Atleti fan because we all know how easy it's for Ramos to receive a yellow
To answer the OP, defensively we are doing extremely well but I think we can improve our passing alittle. Still alittle bit way ward probably because the front 3 is always changing. At the end of the season we will see how good/bad we have been but so far so good
