Ayala was the better defender than Samuel imho.
Ayala was average in Serie A but great in Liga (do I suppose? because no one rates him in Italy) while Samuel was GOAT in Serie A.
So yes it sounds as a very unpopular opinion for me
Freeza wrote:Robespierre wrote:Well that Real Madrid was closer to a circus than to an open system tbh
How could you possibly call a team like this a circus?
Gravesen ( or GOATvesen) was exactly my first thought

Yes , not by chance Totti and Del Piero are of same generation and Totti was the starter N.10 of Italy even in WC when he was half-injured and Lippi (former Juve) as coach. But Lippi preferred Totti over Del Piero
Totti> Baggio is unpopolar instead, at least in Italy it was considered a blasphemy until recently, now Totti also got retired and it guaranteed a "revaulatation'.. from blasphemy to opinion. Still an unpopolar opinion though.
But for me Totti was a more complete player, more versatile (he's been for different periods the best SS, the best CAM and also the best CF of the Serie A), I'd say more modern while Baggio was an arist of the football built for 80s but transplanted into Sacchi era (that's the reason why he was hostile to some great managers as Sacchi, Capello, Lippi, Ancelotti.. Ancelotti didn't want to sign him because not adapted to his 4-4-2. of course he repented for it then).
Baggio was more genius than Totti, that's sure.
but on the whole I take Totti

bullshit why would you say so?
I think there's some good talent out there, there always is... some make it by being coached very well and staying disciplined to the sport, and some don't. Always has been the case, always will be.
Where are they? We should be seeing some already, exciting players between the ages 18 and 25, but what have we got? Speed merchant Mbappe leading the pack and even he won't be relevant unless he absolutely lights it on fire in the CL or leaves Ligue 1.

Didn't realize M99 saying Shevchenko was better than Henry could be seen as banter or senseless.
We are talking about the BdO winner Shevchenko, the guy who topped CL scoring often, fought it out with monster strikers and won capo, NT records, CL titles, league titles, etc.
Similar level of players regardless of preference.

Yes, it's definitely not an unpopular opinion. Football has been going downhill quality-wise for quite a while now, and the next decade is going to suck more than anyone or anything that has ever sucked in the history of sucking.
Looking forward to Rashford winning the BdO.

maybe not as much banter as Kaladin's statement.
But still no imo. And also can't really use his Balon d'Or win over Henry as we all know Henry should rightfully have won one himself the year before him.
Was too young for Shevy's earlier Milan days, but I did watch him play 2003 to 2004, and i used to watch highlights of players as well during that time when i first started watching football. I may not have seen as much as some others of him, but from what I remember he was kind of like a peak Michael Owen in terms of running with the ball, he had better technique though.
But compared to Henry? Henry had too much guile and skill and finesse which Shevy could never catch up with. Plus Henry actually went to Barcelona and contributed, even though the environment obviously was much easier for him in that team, but Shevy was terrible at Chelsea.

We do? An unpopular opinion to post. That wasnt even a close vote, Nedved was a clear winner after such a dominant season.

has been argued and brought up many a time, not only on here, but in most footballing circles.

Re: The unpopular opinion thread
Ehh I've always thought Henry had a better overall, individual season than Nedved. Stats-wise, that's very clear.
I largely think Nedved won it because Juve made it to the CL final that year, whereas Henry's Arsenal didn't make it out of the group stage (Roma were bottom of that same group btw )

blame Wenger, he never really figured out a formula to compete in European football

Eh, using stats to compare a midfielder and a striker is tricky. Can't dismiss such a difference as going out in the second group and reaching the CL final, as winning the toughest league and losing a weaker one. Nedved was the best player in the best team, playing an incredible season. There was not much doubt back then, he absolutely won rightfully.
This is another one were personal preferences can sway either way as levels are similar, but to say he surely didn't deserve it? come on.

Hey he did get you guys to a final in 06 at least. EDF almost got us to one as well.
Not sure Emery or Fonseca can do one better than those achievements though.

Well I didn't say he didn't deserve it. I mean the Balon D'or is rewarded to the most valuable player on the team, who has the most influence on their team's success. Juve were more successful than Arsenal that year so naturally Nedved was the rightful winner as its MVP.
On an individual game-by-game, goal-by-goal basis though? I can't help , but consider Henry the better attacker. He even managed to rack up more assists (as well as goals, but as a striker that's expected) than Nedved during that CL campaign as well. I can't overlook that.
