@zizzle, i don't know if his comeback was all that. yeah he scored, but i remember him and vieri missing a bunch of chances against (i can't remember if it was lazio or lecce) to see juve steal that title. also even when he came back, nobody really saw him as a threat in the upcoming mundial...brazil weren't at all favorites, until the world cup started and him and rivaldo started wreaking havoc

i agree with @LeBéninois, i'm not a fan of individual awards, but if you must have them, hand them out just after the leagues cup or ucl tournaments have ended. that's crunch time in a season, not january. sometimes the attention span of fans and pundits becomes so short....you wait so long to give out an award then statistics, and hindsight theories take over, rather than what we witnessed in real time

Also can't see anything about Ramos' game that makes him anything special

Ramos has his moments but I do agree in that he is inconsistent defensively.

Yeah I agree, Ramos is an awesome motivator, always in it with a 100% of his heart's blood.
But boy is he shit at defending, and frankly, every time I watch him in an important match, I'm baffled by how he isn't getting a red in the first 25 minutes, that's star power for you.

Ronaldo 9 is the best striker of the last 20 years for me. His prime was insane. Combination of pace, power, skill, technique and trickery. He was one of a kind

Irrespective of how much stick GL gives I think EPL is most loved league on this forum. It's just people don't want to accept it. Like everybody wants to screw a fat chick but no one wants to admit it in public.

I don't know about that.. He was pretty good in world cup and the euros. He was pretty great against Bayern in both legs. He or no one is going to look good when the midfield above him is modric- kroos- James. That's 3 former 10s. When we had a much better xabi- modric-Di Maria as defensive presence he looked just fine. Mind you that midfield is still less defensive than all the midfields of entire Europe.

Especially at the WC and against Bayern recently, he should've been sent off. Those are the matches I had in mind when I said less famous players would've been sent off.

Speaking of unlikeable twats, there's always collective fapfest over Muller. I admit i like his skillset, as he reminds me of a certain player we had a long time ago and appreciate what he does for the team. But my, does he come off as a douche on/off the pitch.

tbh I don't know if even it's unpopular don't rate Sergio Ramos. By now it's always more difficult to find anyone (even RM fans s) to do it.

In general he's very highly rated as his constant appearance in team of the year awards shows.

He isn't a bad defender or a player. He has 5 bad matches out of 20 which goes for most CBs.

Maybe he would have been less hyped when the likes of Nesta, Maldini etc were in their prime and Ramos was also in that era

But for this era he has been one of the top CBs. Maybe not top 5 but at least top 100

He has more than 5 bad matches out of 20. Every time I see Madrid concede, 80% of the time Ramos did something wrong.

It's more due to the current state of organisation and tactics.

Maldini wouldn't be half the defender today, well he would but it wouldn't seem like that because he would constantly be isolated.
