point remains what Suarez did was dirty... it was "unethical" and "unsportman-like"... it was instinctual and it says a lot about his character because of that. He was "cheating" the "fair ethics" of the game, point blank! Now i do understand if some is more lenient with what he did... some could simply frame it as it was a show of how much of a "winner" he is, and what lengths he would go to for it. And also in terms on the "dirty" scale it is not to the same degree as going to break someone's leg intentionally. Still, Kaz, your rebuttal is a good response to how Freeza framed his opinion.
It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in sport. July 2 2010 is when I fell out of love with the game all together in general. I was working as an intern in San Diego at a Hardware company at that point, and I sat in that cramped room and wept after that match. It still hurts over 10 years later.
He cheated EVERYBODY who loves football
Who loves sport
Who loves anything that is good, and civil and decent in the world.
That Ghana side, in my opinion, was good enough to beat the Netherlands. Would they have beat Spain in a final? Almost certainly not, but they should have been there. They were the best African team I had ever seen, and this is coming from someone who watched the 90's super eagles .
bruh calm your tits it wasnt that deep lol
Looool this is GL's copypasta now

Pricks like Suarez add an entertainment aspect to football. I wish there were more characters instead of the bland, boring PR-conscious players of today.

i'm not even gunna bother with Lord Spencer anymore if he says that Suarez "could have" cleared the ball with his head is a valid defense in the case of him denying a 100% goal with his hand

I understand your argument Katy Perry but I disagree with it. I don't think we're going to get anywhere here.
To me, if the rules are laid out and both teams understand them, both teams are being treated equally and nothing has been done unfairly. If nothing has been done unfairly, then there has been no cheating.
Calling what Suarez did cheating is laughable to me, but you can have your thoughts.

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion, really, but I wasn't sure where else to put it:
Mexico's NT (and league as a whole) is really bad for being a country that large and as into football as they are.

Thats hardly unpopular. Its pretty much a fact. Most times I've seen people say its because of their FA who is corrupt and hoards money.

Yeah that's why I prefaced it as I did. But I wanted to see if people knew why this is without putting it in the international section since that section gets no traffic.
The corruption would make sense and it's really hard to build a good infrastructure without that top down competency, it's just always been shocking to me that the US has been pretty competitive with Mexico in football for years even though this country cares very little, and Mexico cares quite a lot. You hear a lot about Brazilians or Argentinians who come from nothing to be some of the best in the world. Why not Mexico? Mexico has like 3x the population of Argentina, and football is well loved. The best Mexicans in the past decade are who? Guadardo and Raul Jimenez? Both very decent players, but probably not even to the level of some of the Americans playing in Europe now (Pulisic, Giovanni Reyna)

Training and infrastructure isn't good enough which is why players don't develop into being great. Brazil and Argentina have problems with their FA and leagues too but they are miles ahead of Mexico in player development. You'll see how most of the best Algerian or Moroccan players like Mahrez and Benatia grew up in France. They received proper training and development that nurtured their potential and eventually became world class players.

Re: The unpopular opinion thread
Mexico NT plays really competitive in tournaments though. They always give Brazil trouble. They're the team that either rises up to the competition or lowers down to it. There youth team is always good and they'll win some FIFA/Olympic tournaments but after that they just rot in their own league and never develop or something

VAR is the greatest (and overdue) implementation of the century and stops obnoxious footballing fans from whinging about any hypothetical and visual based officiating decisions like fucking losers.
Where VAR fails is a generation of referees who are unable to use it effectively, most likely because it represents a threat to their own officiating itself.

think this is pretty obvious, especially to us who grew up in the ruthless aggression era

Pretty sure this would be popular here since most people
grew up with 90s or early 00s football.

Re: The unpopular opinion thread
People say that but when their teams lose those players are the first they bitch about.
Classic 10? "He doesn't run enough, how is he not pressing in the modern game"
Limited defensive FB? "He can't do anything with the ball, you need players who can offer more than just defending"
Regista? "DM's should be athletic runners not lazy passers who get overrun"
The list goes on. Those critiques are justified though. With the way the game is going specialists are dying even if it does hurt the entertainment aspect to some degree.

Games nowadays are like FUT, KdB playing as a CM alongside Silva, really? Strikers being deployed as wingers, absolute madness

Re: The unpopular opinion thread
^ That actually comes down to the fact most top teams play a variation of 2-3-5/3-2-5 in the attacking phase now.
The front 5 is either a variation of LB - LW - ST - RW - RB or LW - LCM - ST - RCM - RW. Attacking players are playing high up the pitch and in between the lines. If you're going to play your CM's that high up might as well play #10s there since they're more comfortable in those advanced areas. The idea is then to train their off the ball game to perform the more traditional aspects of their role.
I think that was the biggest attacking trend of the last 5-6 years.

I find their league decent. Nothing compares to how crap the peruvian league and their teams are. Peruvian sides are an easy 3 points for all teams in the Copa Libetadores/Sudamericana
