Barcelona fan group rally against Rosell
A group of disgruntled Barcelona members calling themselves 'Go Barca' are proposing an official 'motion of censure' against president Sandro Rosell and the current blaugrana board.
• Tomas: Decisive win for record-breaking Barcelona
On Monday morning two members of the group -- Joan Arnes and Jordi Cases -- reportedly submitted the relevant paperwork required at the club's offices.
'Go Barca' [Grup d'opinio barcelonista] claim that Rosell and three vice-presidents -- Josep Maria Bartomeu, Javier Faus, and Jordi Cardoner -- have lied and tricked the club's socios, and are particularly unhappy with the club's commercial dealings with Qatar and its handling of the exit of former defender Eric Abidal.
Barca's club statutes mandate that the club now has five days to provide the paperwork which could lead to a referendum to decide whether Rosell and the current board should be officially 'censured'. The support of five percent of Barca's approximately 110,000 members would be required to call this vote.
However, at the club's AGM next Saturday a proposed change to its statutes to be proposed by the board would -- coincidentally or not -- raise this requirement to 15 percent.
'Go Barca' has only come to widespread public attention in recent weeks -- and is not thought to include any heavyweight potential challengers to the current 'junta' -- unlike the 'elefant blau' group led by Joan Laporta, in which Rosell himself was involved, which censured then president Josep Lluis Nunez in 1997, and led to Nunez eventually leaving the club in 2000.
Such 'motions of censure' are common at Barcelona -- and Nunez's successors Joan Gaspart and Laporta also faced similar votes.
A press conference has been announced for Wednesday lunchtime, at which 'Go Barca' figures are to give more details of their issues with the current board and plans for change.
Last April, former Nike executive Rosell announced his attention to run for a second term, even though his current spell as president still has three years yet to run.

Can anyone explain to me what exactly "censuring" Rosell would do?

Against lies and missmanagement.Harmonica wrote:Against record braking, financially healing Barcelona? Well timed you utter fools of fans.
It's very difficult that the vote of censure is won because it requires more than a 60% of votes (don't remember the exact figure). If won, there would be new elections.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Can anyone explain to me what exactly "censuring" Rosell would do?

Re: Barcelona fan group rally against Rosell
I would rather Barcelona didn't break any records and win trophies and still keep faithful to "Mes que un club", play without a queer sponsor on the players' T-shirts and respect people like Cruyff, Guardiola, Abidal, Valdes or even Laporta who have brought a lot to this club's history.Harmonica wrote:Against record braking, financially healing Barcelona? I personally don't want a club president who wants to turn Barcelona into a marketing whore like Real Madrid (no offense intended) and only buy star players for advertising purposes (see our inability to search for other CBs this summer beyond household names), thus changing the club's principles.

Members who wanted to trigger Vote of No Confidence against board stop their actions as they'd need signatures of 15% (not 5%) of members.
