So I was pretty upset when you guys got Flamini from us some 6 odd years back. The solidarity of our midfield was never the same since his departure(untill the arrival of the DM version of Arteta last year). I am still a huge fan of Flamini, but I am obviously part of a small minority within the Arsenal camp.

So with that said, here is m y question. What is your assessment of Flamini, and how was he during his spell at Milan? I understand he went into a team where he had to over throw either Gatusso or Maldini... so his minutes probably would have been limited. I have been told that over the past 2 years he finally started to come on to his own. Is this true? Also, What do you think he can offer to this young Arsenal midfield?

And given the fact that he was free, and apparently going on 75k/week is that a good deal?

Well he would have had to only overthrow Gattuso and some other DM's not Maldini, since Maldini was a LB/CB and not a DM.

My honest opinion about him is that he was sh*t for us. He lacks any tactical awareness and bloody Muntari probably was better for us. He was literally a red card threat every single time he was on the pitch. He would always lunge in with both feet and tackle and is a red card threat every game.

And when he was offered playing time as a RB, he kept claiming he didn't want to play there. So he only played as a CM and since most of our CM's were superior to him he didn't see much playing time.

Though he did score a few important goals TBH.

What he can offer to Arsenal? Perhaps leadership not sure tbh. But, he's a pretty bad player. Though he does pop in with the odd goal every now and then.

its fair to say that when he came to us, he had to adapt serie a, and life under ancelotti so it did take time. but he did impress few games, but then after that either he was injured or when he was playing he was careless. he was playing more as b2b for us, under allegri. but even at allegri's helm he was mostly playing as sub, but did score 1-2 valuable goals.

he isn't the same player than he was when he formed a killer partnership with fabregas.

if anything, to bring his best of him, i still think he needs fabregas with him.

he used to earn massive 4.5 million a year in his first 3 years of contract with us, 75k at his age and form? i dont think he deserves that , but arsenal does need some steel in the middle, they have been lacking that ever since he left arsenal

I feel like I'm gonna be a minority here, but I always had a soft spot for Flamini. Before he came to Milan, I saw a lot of him at Arsenal and I rated him.

At Milan however, he could not perform at the same standards. Part of it was due to differences between EPL and Serie A and the rest was because of Ancelotti not giving him a fair chance.

After that, he did improve but throughout his Milan career, injuries also played a key role in holding him back. Under Allegri he had some good games and some bad ones. Nothing too special really.

He did score some really important goals near the end of last season and while scoring goals is not his primary job, we probably wouldn't have made the CL without those goals. But then again, the same can be said of almost every goal.

I think he'll do well in Arsenal. He probably won't be starting every game, but his attributes are much better suited to the EPL and he will provide the Arsenal midfield with some steel and leadership.

Maybe it was a motivational thing afterall. He bossed Spurs today. Exactly what we needed in our team (Provided the steel and leadership). My heard did skip when he went into that 2 footed tackle tho lol.

Flamini with his classic two footed tackle

When will he learn...

Edit: if you type in "Flamini tw..." the third guess is two footed tackle and you can even see a bunch of examples on google images... https://www.google.com/search?q=flamini+two+footed+tackle&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=QPEjUvGkJqaqsQTJw4GADA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1363&bih=1003

I think it wont be long until he wins over the fans honestly. We need that aggression in our team. Plus seeing him in the red and white was quite nostalgic Proud . I am sure you guys understand the feeling. I am sure he has gained enough tactical intelligence having played in Italy to help us close o ut games.

I always liked Flamini. Truth is , he was quite unlucky at Milan , even though they were times i at least was glad to have him play for Milan. Another truth is , we won't miss him now that he's gone , but you will be glad to have him. He's changed since Arsenal. He's twice the player he was , though certain flaws he was never able to dismiss , but that's normal to an extent..

He's aggresive and he plays in a position that he must risk getting yellowed , but tacticaly and physicaly he's become a lot , lot better than he used to be. Having been treated quite unfairly by Milan in his last days and given a fresh start in England , he will be motivated to prove doubters wrong. I wish Flamini all the best and i believe he will help you quite a lot.
