How did Inter fall like this?

I don't really keep up with Serie A that much, and this has always bothered me. You don't just go from being one of the top clubs in Europe to 6th and 9th in the last two years, how did this happen?

I mean not too long ago they were one of the big teams in Europe, they just won the CL in 2010....

if im not mistaken there squad got old, and they had a financial overhaul in the fact they cut down on wages and transfer spending

Combination of end of cycle, horrible management and lack of funds. Horrible management includes the chopping and changing of managers constantly
I see no bright immediate future for inter unfortunately, I'm pessimistic after last year

I know the bit about Mou's treble reached the peak, and him leaving had a big impact. Many players were past their best. Lost of motivation after the ultimate treble. Bad management.

The financial side Im not so sure about, anyone know in depth why? Isnt Moratti selling the club?

I actually feel for the Inter fans having been in almost the same situation ourselves. It'll take some time to rebuild but just remember that there is a golden sky at the end of storm.

Also we'll gladly take Kovacic off your hands if you guys are ever willing to sell.

Natural selection. They didn't adapt to their new environment and now the are going the way of the dodo.

Well last season we ended up with an ungodly amount of injuries, under regular circumstances i doubt we would've finished 9th.

But we've slowly been slipping because the owner, Massimo Moratti, is at the end of his cycle. His oil company hasn't been doing well at all, add in FFP and the result is we've been cutting costs on the squad for a couple years now.

This has also coincided with the fact that JuBe has been spending alot of money (and spending well).

New possible owner, Eric Thohir, seems like he knows what he's doing so i am pretty confident we'll be back sooner than later.

FFP imo. Moratti has been carrying them for a few years until now.

Injuries and I guess WC players getting old and declining and proper replacements not being bought.

Our treble winning team all got contract extensions with huge wages as they were declining, add that with FFP and it screwed us over financially. no proper replacements bought, but we are slowly rebuilding, it will be awhile though unless the deal with Thohir actually goes through.

1) we took FFP seriously. (for whatever reason it may be)
2) mostly bad transfers
3) zero management stability

i'm not too comfortable listing injuries as a reason. they did play a big factor, but i feel we would still have been crap.

our squad is improving though. the last batch of transfers we have done are good imo. our "youth project" was absolute bs. but it does actually exist this season. our overall first team age is young now

i know..that i'm gonna be hanged by most poster after saying this...(especially for being a Juve fan):

..but i think they are actually back where they belong (not meaning 9th or 6th place...but away from the top 2 places).
without farsopoli they wouldn't have won anything. it just nature...balancing itself.
inter's success was only a distortion of that staged scandal.
staged...but necessary...italian football was indeed corrupt...ALL of it! still is in small portions

i don't think juve were as weekend by calciopoli as you'd like to make out. you were back in one season. cannavaro was the biggest loss. but viera was already past his best and you got over 30m for viera and ibra. ibra would have left you eventually in a season or two anyway obviously. you had enough money to keep your team as strong/almost as strong. you kept your best players too generally

Dont really have much sympathy for Inter after the way they treated Rafa.

He had an aging and exhausted squad, gave him no money to spend and put all the blame on him (i.e Saying he was at fault for nearly half the squad being injured).

They can keep falling for all I care.

He was shite.A treble winning squad can't drop that bad in 3 months break FFS...Only changes in the team were Balotelli leaving and Coutinho and Biabiany arriving.Even with an aging squad we had to win the scudetto and have a decent CL campaign.

They are an example to teams to not get too comfortable when you're at the top.

Using the calciopoli as an excuse to how great we were isnt a good excuse, it mightve effected the scudetto run but it didnt effect the champions league and we won that too. Mourinho's Inter was/is his strongest team yet.

I applaud inter for trying to balance the books.

Yep, also, they took their totally unwarranted success for granted and didn't use it to build a stable foundation for future success.

Ehhh, he qualified for the last 16 and was sacked before the KO rounds began.

I'd safely say he would not have let Schalke score 5 at the San Siro

Horrible mismanagement.

Right after their treble win when they made losses,they extended old players' contracts with higher wages when they had good offers from clubs for them instead they sold their best young talent.Costs subsequently became unbearable and forced all the old guard out.Poor transfer decisions with their limited budget added to the misery.

They have always been a badly run club.They just happened to hit the jackpot when Calciopoli happened.

Benitez made a mistake going there after Mou. It was a poisoned chalice and after their exploits in the CL, were never going to repeat such a feat with the old biddies in the squad.

The player's attitude towards Benitez, particularly Materazzi, was disgusting from professional footballers.

RB will have the last laugh though when Napoli dick all over Inter in the league.
