The Official Ligue 1 thread
Both PSG-Montpellier at Montpellier and Monaco-Bordeaux at Bordeaux are sold out. This is fantastic for Montpellier and Bordeaux. It shows that stars have a big draw in France and will fill stadiums. If it keeps up, it should attract more investors into the league since it proves up that football is a true passion here and will attract a lot of people if the product is of high quality.
Also, PSG has sold out all its season tickets for this season and has a 25k waiting list.
OM is expected to draw massively once again as the construction is no longer such a massive nuisance and the field product is good.
Slowly but surely... of course, if the 75% tax is passed, half the league is killed.

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
Montpellier managed to draw with PSG which was nice. 1-1
Lyon playing some excellent stuff against Nice. 3-0 atm
Lille 1-0 up against 10 men Lorient
Monaco just took the lead against Bordeaux. 1-0 with a late strike for Rivieire.

You watch the Lyon game RG? People are waxing lyrical about their front six on twitter. Seems like Gourcuff had a monstrous game going by Whorescored stats.

Yea watched most of it. They are right. Lacazette, Benzia, Grenier, Ferri and Gourcuff were outstanding. Mvuemba was meh though which he usually is.
Fofana played CB and actually was good. But bigger tests ahead.
They brought on Bahlouli who is another of their hidden gems.

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
I see the bookies have PGS total favourites, with Monaco second by a fair distance, then further larger margin off, Marseille, then Lyon, Lille.
Do u guys agree with this? I hardly get to watch the French league games, but more often than not quite slow paced and boring But still interested.
Just how good will the top 3 be as above interests me especially, for the stars factor and for the title race/CL race.

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
Yeah... PSG is ahead by quite a lot. They have WC level players at every position other than fullback, and Digne would make LB pretty good too once he breaks in.
Monaco is the only one that can challenge IF they stay healthy. Thy have the stars we all know, but also some uknown truly dynamite kids like Kurzawa, Carrasco and Ocampos. Watch Kurzawa... extremely talented 20 yo LB. He blew the Spurs out and now Bordeaux.
OM will be very solid. They will be a top defensive side without a doubt and they have brought in good creative talent and attacking talent. I think OM is clearly #3 and could challenge for #2.
Then you have Lyon, St Etienne and Lille in the next group.
Rennes is my dark horse only because of Montanier... but they are very injured right now like Nice.

NANTES WIN in their return Now that's a club with great history. Hopefully they surprise everyone and finish in European spots.

PSG have already lost their 2 point advantage to Monaco. Going to be a fun season.

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
Nantes is going to have a hard time staying up, let alone top 1/3 of the table. Their finances caused the league to freeze them from making any purchases on the transfer market. Great win... but it's going to be a struggle this year for them.

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
I have got these questions for those who follow French League:
1. Who has the better team! PSG or Monaco!
2. Do you think OM is certain to finish T3 (CL qualification)!
3. Which other teams could be in the running for EL (even CL) places!
We don't get to watch L1 and there's always very little coverage (web, paper) aside Falcao as such.

And no, nothing is guaranteed. The league is competitive. PSG only clinched the title on the 36th of 38 days last year. Monaco wasn't there and OM was not this talented. But unless the kids really step up big, St Etienne and Lyon aren't as good.

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
What about Monaco - do they get to keep their tax advantage or will the league be able to force them to relocate their business base to France proper?

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
This is a legal battle that will last a while. But Ligue 1 won round 1 of many rounds... i don't think there will be definitive ruling that either side has to live by for a year or maybe more.rwo power wrote:What about Monaco - do they get to keep their tax advantage or will the league be able to force them to relocate their business base to France proper?

Very eager to watch OM tonight and see how they look. Preseason wasn't so good... but the talent looks good. Expected starting lineup tonight

Ah thx. I thought this might take a while, as I haven't read much about it than the original dispute so far. I guess as long they still talk behind closed doors one will likely not hear much.

2) Certain is a strong word but i do believe they will challenge for the title so yea.
3) Other teams, Lyon, St Etienne, Lille and maybe even Montpellier (EL).

Re: Ligue 1 Discussion 13/14
Problem with OM is depth... which is actually a huge problem since we play CL and all the domestic cups. Last year, we got eliminated nice and early from everything other than Ligue 1

how is Florian Thauvin doing, any signs of him looking to be his breakout season, i want him to replace di magia next season with jese on the other side as alternatives to OZ & IS.

Thauvin has yet to play a second for Lille... he doesn't want to be there tbh. Why would you want Thauvin when there's already Jese?
