Chelsea Football Club and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel.

The player will join Chelsea subject to a medical, agreement of personal terms and legal documentation.

Pretty funny I just saw a united forum post about van Ginkel. They were linked with him but with our relationship with vitesse it was pretty obvious who would win out. The article goes on to say that he's going to be a huge flop and it's lucky united didn't get him Hopefully another Downing vs Mata scenario although they aren't quite that dumb.

Let's hope he is another Mata. I saw similar stuff from United, They were never going to win the race.

Is he good?

What kind of midfielder is he exactly? I always had the idea that he is a defensive midfielder playing in the pivot. But as I keep reading about him, he scores a lot of goals too, can someone clarify his credentials? Haha I know he's only 20

I wish I could tell you for sure, mate. Some people you see saying he's a player with great defensive instincts a good manager could use to make him into a great DM, others saying he's more a box-to-box type, and then others saying he's a seamless Lampard replacement. Have yet to read any kind of scouting report on him so I haven't a clue which assertion is the right one

He is basically a complete midfielder who will run for 90 minutes box to box, he is able to defend, score pass and dribble although he does not dribble much, he generally passes the ball after recieving it.

He isn't the DLP we all want but he will certainly be one of the best passers in the team and he has the potential to be a World class midfielder, someone in the mould of a schweinsteiger type.

Very good buy but presently is probably a level below EPL starting quality, when we were first linked to him I said if he can step it up, he'll be a starter for sure. I stand by that.

Hm, nice summarisation.

Good read, from what I'm picking up is that he is really good at passing. Can't help but to draw similarities about the passing qualities of oriel romeou.

He is better than Romeu, Like I said, He isn't the Xabi Alonso/Pirlo DLP that we want but he is probably on par with Lampard if not better in terms of passing.

Chelsea believe Marco van Ginkel can be groomed as Frank Lampard's replacement:

No, He won't. He'll serve a different role but he is the closet thing we will find to Lampard for a while.

I am not one for trying to replace players anyway, I'd rather try something different.
