Re: New York City getting another MLS team
why is NASL the death of the cosmos? didn't the timbers, whitecaps and impact come from the NASL?
NHL has 3 NY/NJ teams, Rangers, Islanders, Devils....why couldn't MLS have same thing with NYCFC, Cosmos, Red Bulls being in New Jersey

Better question why doesn't MLS have a florida team..
so many hispanics living there whereas NY is packed with teams.
expand the damn sport and you'll get more viewers and interested people.

Florida is a terrible sporting state....well Miami to be more specific.
Baseball teams crappy attendence
Hockey teams crappy attendence
Basketball teams are ok, but they were crap before Lebron came
Florida only cares about football more specifically College football, even the Jacksonville Jaguars get crappy crowds and the Dolphin crowds ain't much to write home about either
I doubt they could support a start up MLS franchise who would likely be kinda crappy for the first few seasons and interest would die

Agreed. Its ridiculous. 20 teams is way more than enough.Butt wrote:Looks like MLS is gonna be adding another 4 more teams by end of decade... Too many teams.
All they have to do is just get rid of Chivas USA and replace them with Orlando City, and move one of the other small market teams to San Francisco then the league would be set.

One of the new teams will be David Beckhams new club due to the clause in his contract about getting an expansion team for 25$ million ? Not sure for exactly how much.
As for to many teams, the league will just have 2 conferences of 12 teams each, play teams in your conference twice (22 games) and play teams in opposite conference once (12 games).
You end up with a 34 game season(same # of games as now) plus playoffs, open cup and CCl for teams who qualify.
Lastly chivas USA doesn't need to leave LA county they need to leave Carson(home depot center/stub hub center) and move to downtown LA where they can actually draw a crowd. Tear down the LA sports Arena next to the LA Coliseum, build a stadium and parking garage etc... Either usc and the city council are being dicks about this, or it could just be that they have a shitty owner.

Depends on the area and the market. We average 8,300 a game for a glorified division 3 soccer team right now in Orlando. However, I would admit it's also the best lower division soccer team in the nation and would finish mid-table in the MLS right now if we joined. We already have the land and the fee, now we just need the city to approve the stadium and we'll be the first of the 4 new expansion teams.
Also, still don't understand why Beckham hasn't latched onto Orlando over Miami. Miami is a horrible sports town, actually just a horrible place in general, but could you imagine what they Beckham brand could do with the backing of Disney?

Here in Edmonton we have commonwealth which can hold 55,000 (albeit probably around 30,000 would be a more realistic attendance goal) but why not look here and not bring in a double team to the MLS. FC Edmonton could be the rivals of Whitecaps and get a western Canadian rivalry in the league. It doesnèt make since especially because Red Bulls are in the area and they donèt even fill the seats and now there are 3 teams (including Cosmos)?
what a joke.
FC Edmonton? Surely you can't be serious. I have a few friends that play for this team and even they don't take it seriously!
Go Oilers!
