Jérémie Aliadière

Jérémie Aliadière was born on March 30, 1983 in Rambouillet. Aliadière is a graduate of the very prestigious and very elite Clairefontaine academy. He signed for us when he was only 16 years old. Jérémie showed a LOT of promise in his first season and still to this date holds the record for most goals scored in the F.A Youth Cup. He debuted in 01-02 against Fulham replacing the great Thierry Henry,and scored his first goal in a 5-2 victory against West Brom. During 2003-04 , he continued to try to break into the Arsenal first team which boasted the great Henry and Bergkamp. He made played in 10 Premier League games and made seven substitute appearances and made his F.A Cup debut against Manchester United. He also scored 4 goals in that season's League Cup campaign and was voted as the best young talent of the tournament.

Jérémie was very injury prone and was injured for much of that campaign and was kept out of action until February , but even then he could only make 6 appearances off the bench for the first team and he did not score. He did impress for the reserves when given the opportunity showcasing his obvious talent scoring 8 goals in 5 games. He scored Arsenals first League Cup goal that season against Rotherham United, with the game at 1-1 and Arsenal winning the game 9-8 on penalties. In December that year he was the person that scored the winning goals in 2 games.


Jérémie was sent on loan to Celtic to get regular football, as Arsene Wenger had stated that he had a future at Arsenal but the partnership of Bergkamp and Henry was too difficult to crack at the time. Constant injuries and the non-existent belief in him resulted in him appearing only twice as a substitute for Celtic. He then moved back closer to his home at the time with a loan move to West Ham United. It is believed that he was disappointed in falling behind the pecking order at Celtic and it was for that reason that he chose to go to West Ham who had just been promoted. Injuries kept following him and he only made 8 appearances, 7 as a substitute.

West Ham terminated his loan on the 31st of January, 2006 and he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship. He was able to make some sort of run in the championship playing 14 games and was substituted in the rest of the games that year. He only managed to score 2 goals. When he returned to Arsenal (in 06-07) he featured in the League Cup regularly again, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory against West Brom and he scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-2 draw against Portsmouth. He kept playing in the League Cup, and scored against Liverpool in a 6-3 victory and in the second leg of the semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur where they advanced with a 3-1 win. Arsenal lost that final, with Aliadière playing 80 minutes. In January 2007 , Wenger said Aliadière could leave after much interest from Middlesbrough. The move failed to materialize after RVP broke his foot, and he made his final Arsenal appearance on the final day of the 2006–07 season against Portsmouth in a 0–0 draw at Fratton Park.


Aliadière went to Middlesbrough and scored his first goal Manchester United. He proceeded to score against Manchester City and Arsenal. In 3 years he was constantly injured but always scored when his team needed it despite not being prolific. After deciding to stick with Middlesbrough through relegation he was betrayed by the fans and was boo-ed at the opening game, which brought him into tears in the tunnel. After being mistreated by the fans for the whole season he did not sign and was released, he joined Arsenal to maintain his fitness and was thought that he was going to join Stoke. Arsene Wenger talked to his contact over at Lorient and they signed Aliadière.

Jérémie had always had huge potential and can mostly be described as lightning quick, great on the ball and very technically gifted. He is also very versatile and can play on the wings, as a striker, and as an SS. The head coach at the famed Clairefontaine academy had said : " The three best players we've ever had at the Clairefontaine academy are Thierry Henry, Nikolas Anelka, and Jérémie Aliadière ". Forget Fabregas, forget Wilshere, forget Bendtner, Aliadière was the most hyped and promising youngster at his time in Arsenal history. He is a case of what could'v been and what would've happened. He is still held in very high regard amongst Arsenal fans and when he returned to Arsenal he was greeted with cheers and crowds waiting for an autograph. We wish him all the best.

Eduardo César Daude Gaspar

Eduardo César Daude Gaspar, more commonly known as Edu, was born on the 15th of May, 1978 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Edu signed from Corinthians for a fee of £6 million. He had a hard time early on as his transfer was delayed due to him having a fake Portuguese passport, although he was given he qualified for an EU passport due to Italian heritage from his fathers side. As if this wasn't unlucky enough, his sister was killed in a car crash as soon as he arrived (R.I.P). This was not the end of it, as he suffered injury only 15 minutes into his debut against Leicester City ! The most unlucky start ever ? Arriving as Emmanuel Petit's replacement, he created his own legacy in his time at Arsenal.

It was always going to be difficult at Arsenal due to the competition he had to start, and his first competitive season was a poor start with him featuring only 5 games due to injuries and one of them was a 3-0 loss against Middlesbrough in which he contributed an own goal. The next season was his breakthrough and helped Arsenal reach heights. Arsene Wenger bought Gilberto Silva the year after which restricted Edu's games even more but he kept doing his job silently and efficiently. He enjoyed his greatest season in 03-04 which climaxed when he scored a goal in the 5-1 win against Inter Milan.




Edu was going to play for England in the world cup after he gained British citizenship but Brazil called him up for a friendly against Chile. Edu enjoyed mixed fortunes in the 2004–05 season. He missed the start of the season because he was away with Brazil at the Copa América. This was followed by speculation over his future at the club as he was in the last year of his contract with Arsenal. Talks with Valencia of Spain in January 2005 failed as the Mestalla outfit were not able to pay the fee Arsenal demanded.

In the major competitions, Edu often had to settle for a place among the substitutes. His staccato Arsenal career is illustrated by his appearance stats. Edu made 127 appearances for the Club but 51 of those - 40 per cent - came from the bench. The emergence of Cesc Fabregas in 2005 limited his appearances even more but in that very year, Viera left for Juventus. It seemed as if it was scripted, our beloved captain leaving and our very loyal back up ready to take his place. It was not to be, as Edu has his heart set on leaving to Valencia.


Edu was quite strong and pacey enough. With lungs that seemed to be blessed, he could handle the physicality of the EPL like very few could...with ease. He had wonderful technique and could pass the ball with great assurance. His positioning was great but he rarely ventured into the attack. His personality could be described as calm and cool, with an aura of great power and confidence. Another one of Arsenal's unsung heroes and definite favourites here.

Later, Wenger would admit he was wrong to let Vieira and Edu leave in the same transfer window, especially with Fabregas still learning his trade. Everyone at Arsenal was sad to see the Brazilian go. Not only was Edu a real talent; he was one of the friendliest faces at the training ground too. He retired at Corinthians and now, continues in the game as they're manager (As of the 22nd of August,2011). Taking everything he learned from Wenger, adding it to his cool and calm personality of his, with the great patience that only Wenger can boast greater...a manager, quite similar. It is well known that Arsenal is Edu's favourite club, surprisingly ahead of Corinthians

Pat Rice was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on the 17th of March, 1949. He arrived at Arsenal as an apprentice at the age of 15 and the story starts there. Not the most technical out of his age group, Pat always tried to make it up with sheer hard work. Pat made his way up through the youth and reserves. He made his first-team debut in the League Cup against Burnley in 1967, a match Arsenal won 2–1. A Natural RB, Rice made the rare appearance here and there, due to the great Peter Storey, making only 16 appearances in his first three seasons at Arsenal, missing out on Arsenal's 1969–70 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup win over RSC Anderlecht. However, during this time he won his first cap for Northern Ireland, against Israel on September 10, 1968, while still being a reserve player !

Putting a lot of hard work in, he timed his tackles better, made more accurate passes and got faster, Arsenal were impressed. As Peter Storey was moved into central midfield, Pat made the right back position his own. He was a near-ever present in the side that won the double in 70-71. He was a hard worker and a tough player, hardly making mistakes and having the "Never give up" attitude. The incredible day at Wembley would be the first of five FA Cup Final appearances for Rice, a Club record (He is tied with David Seaman and Ray Parlour). Unfortunately, the victory over Liverpool would be one of just two triumphs.


Rice played in the defeat against Leeds in 1972 and, as the Double side withered away and lost most of it's players, he made sure to stick around. It was just as well. Pat's character was a valuable asset when Arsenal battled the drop in the mid-Seventies as his hard work, valor, and effort inspired his fellow players. When World Cup winner and Arsenal great Alan Ball left in 1977, Their was no better choice then Pat "The Machine" Rice. While we mostly know him nowadays as "Quiet Pat" he was the most vocal of a pretty raucous bunch back in the day.

Having learned from infamous arch-motivator Frank McLintock, Rice captained Arsenal with authority and distinction, leading them to three successive FA Cup Finals from 1978 to 1980. He got his hands on the famous old trophy after an incredible 3-2 victory over Manchester United in 1979. At the age of 31, Rice was too old for Arsenal but not for the game, he soon moved to Watford [The legendary side that moved from the Fourth Division to the First in the space of 5 years. (They were in the second division at this time)] and made 137 appearances. He made 49 appearances for Northern Ireland. Pat had made 528 (Wow!) appearances for Arsenal by the time he left. This was not the last time we will see Pat at Arsenal.


Rice rejoined Arsenal in 1984 as youth team coach (Where he started), a post he held for the next 12 years, winning the FA Youth Cup twice. In September 1996, Rice was briefly caretaker manager of the club after the resignation of Stewart Houston.. He managed the side for three FA Premier League matches (all of which Arsenal won) and a 3–2 defeat in the UEFA Cup at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Upon the arrival of Arsène Wenger at the end of the month, Rice became his assistant, and has since played a key role in helping the club to a number of successes in the 1990s and 2000s, including the Doubles of 1997–98 and 2001–02, and Arsenal's unbeaten League season of 2003–04. He holds the distinction (along with Bob Wilson) of having taken part, as player or coach, in all three of Arsenal's Doubles.

Forty-four years after arriving at the Club as a wide-eyed teenager, he is still giving everything to the Arsenal cause. "It really and truthfully is great to be thought of so highly by the Arsenal fans and I hope that I will always have that rapport with them," said Rice. "When I joined the Club I never ever thought I would be at the Club for the number of years that I have so far. I hope that relationship continues". When Arsenal.com told Pat Rice he had landed at No 17 in the Gunners' Greatest Players poll in 2008, his first reaction was one of shock. "I could run off 30-odd players who were better players than me," he gasped. What a modest figure, what a loyal character, what a brilliant player. While we all give him slack for being Arsenals #2 we don't notice that he really is the most ideal person to have alongside Wenger. A legend who is one of the players on the Emirates stadium, he will never be forgotten for the brilliant service he has given us.
