well The Echo reported that we have cracked a deal worth 9m euros for him. . and a medical is due next week.

I know we have a pretty full compliment of CMs but I'd take Strootman at 20m euros... especially if that meant United missed out on a main target.

We've been linked consistently for several years now, and have scouted him for the last couple of seasons. We were also one of four clubs mentioned by Advocaat when he said Strootman should leave for the PL this summer back in May.

That would mean shelvey would have to go out on loan, surley we couldn't provide enough game time for him with Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Allen and Strootman with the lack of europe. Even if he did play more as an attacking option, i would assume we have other players who could fill that position more effectively. Regardless if we get another CM or not, i reckon shelvey should be loaned, no point him rotting on the bench and not making the subs.

At €20 million, he is expected to be a starter, right! Now I don't know much about him, but if he is bought it will mean deperture of Allen, Henderson or Shelvey, right!

At 20m he's way too expensive, and plays in a position we don't need reinforcing just yet. Rather an attacking midfielder and/or a wide forward.

I'm well aware of our relatively strong depth in CM (hence why I mentioned it in my first post on the subject) but I feel some of you are underrating Strootman's attacking game.

that said, we're not seriously interested so there's nothing to get worked up over.

I think the idea behind Mkhitaryan is that we would either play him as a #10 moving Coutinho to to the left, or play him on either the left or right with Coutinho in the middle. The price seems inflated to say the least, but I believe he may be more of a goal threat than Coutinho and Downing. I haven't seen that much of him, so I can't really offer to much first-hand insight.

I'm going to cal BS on the Benteke rumor. Hes better with the ball at his feet than Carroll, but hes still a bit too much of a target forward for Rodgers. I can't see him being more than a bench option for us. There's no way he would be okay with that coming off last season's performance.

I'm calling BS on Mkhitaryan links as well. I don't think we'll sign him at all. He's not necessarily the sort of player we need even if statistically it's proven otherwise. Sure we need more goals from midfield but that's largely due to Downing and Henderson, our wide midfielders, not being goal poachers from midfield. We need another creative outlet (and Red touched on this in the other thread) someone like Eriksen who can break down defenses that will park the bus. And I'm 100% certain we'll get around 6-10 from Coutinho, 8-12 from Stevie. The goalscoring improvement needs to come from the wide forward positions.

I actually posted a Mkhitaryan link about a month or two ago. If I'm remembering right, it was from a credible source, but I only saw it the once. I'll try and find where I posted it (it was somewhere in this section for sure).

Rumors going around that we've put in a 12m bid for henrik mkhitaryan of shakhtar. They're rumored to be looking for 15m. He's a 24 year old AM with a great goal to game ratio this year. Anybody know anything else about him other than he sounds like a character out of ASOIAF?

at the very least it's a second report, though. this isn't coming out of thin air.

yeah but papa is still only 21, i beleive he will get much better once he starts working under BR; I know that schalke will try to get maximum from his sale, but I think we have learned our lessons in the past and I hope we get him for less than 15 mi pounds.

Papadopolous - I've watched him quite alot at Schalke and I have no doubt everyone would be very very satisfied if he was signed. Regardless of Price. British media seems to want to make him a nuisance, but far from it. That guy is passionate, a defensive leader and an absolute animal....and I for one would not want the latter to change.

I really haven't watched the team since January, and since significant changes were made, and guys like Coutinhio and Sturridge have become important pieces of the team, it's difficult to suggest anything.

I think Aspas was a very good signing and I have faith in Borini to be like a new signing next year.
