This is how I'd play against teams like Milan:

Llorente / Drogba / Klose / SOMEONE who isn't a midget and can head a ball
Tello Messi Alexis
Song Busquets
Alba Puyol Pique Alves

With Pique basically playing as a libero and going forward as much as possible and Busquets slotting back into CB during that period.

Get everyone off the pitch who can pass the ball except Messi and Busquets. Get your paciest players on the wings to stretch play as much as possible. Play a targetman with Pique often joining him upfront. Let your wingbacks bombard the box with crosses. Profit. THIS is a plan B. Anything else will just have the same result as the Inter or Chelsea return legs.

as I have seen few games, as few have already pointed out...changing players might bring maximum 1 or 2 goals but barca need three goals, its going to be difficult.
I think, other teams have realised that pattern in which the players move. Also they looked so static during past few games, evrey run is spotted by opposotion teams. They need some kind of variation in their play, try to use individual skills more and also exploit individual weakness if any from the opposition team.

I dont think the line up will work much better than the normal one imo Mole. Unless, Villa is actually going to be as a 9 and Messi behind him...rather than directly next to each other.

Also, I would take Alves back to the defence instead of Alba, plug Tello in there.

What's your problem with Alba? If one of the fullbacks has to go it's clearly Alves, not Alba. I have yet to see anything coming through Alba's side as consistently as through Alves'. Problem with Alba is very simple, he is a very bad defender. Very bad in the 1 v 1, very bad positionally, doesnt get how the offside trap works and is the worst player in the air I seen in a pretty long time as a defender.

Oh, he also takes far too many touches on the ball.

Dani Alves is incomparable to that hack, the difference is like the Hilton and some hostel in Uganda.

I think in practice that is how it would work anyway.

It would give us a chance, but very little...

If we was on form and playing properly, I would still doubt our chances...the way he are playing right now...I cant be anything but pessamistic, which is actually realistic lol

But yeah, I think its a good line up, I think we should def go 3 at the back.

You do know its not as easy as that, right? When you are facing 10 defenders the most likely outcomes of a shot is that it will be a block by a defender. I am all for playing a more high risk football, but I am 100% against at shooting at everytime they are close to the goal.

Futbol we won't ever play with 2 holding midfielders + messi as our only midfield. It goes against our style, we won't dominate possession, and that system is more suited to a counter-attacking team (ie, if we played that way, there would be no need to park the bus vs us). If we perform Plan A in a good enough way then we will win. I'm not against ditching the false 9 for specific instances and moving Messi to the right in favor of a CF as some people are, but we don't need an entire system overhaul.

B. And Alves until the last couple of weeks was a disaster. He was right down shite defensivly speaking and he wasn't the same going forward. The last couple of weeks he got better offensively but he still awful at the back.

I agree with what futbol said about this subject. I have yet to see anything coming through Alba's side as consistently as through Alves.

With all my respect to "The Franchise": Where's the freedom to show my opinion??? What happened to goallegacy??? If you put a Barca fanboy as an adm, I think bad times are coming next. Where's RealGunner??? I really think Barcelona is the same team they ever were, with the same problems. When they faced a tough team with great tactical skills and defense they even cant shoot. That Ovrebo night, in Pep's Barca climax, Barca shoot 1 time, and they past the round thanks to Ovrebo. So, for me, they basically need again to be protected by the refs to improve.

Players get older and you need to transition in new ones... that's the case with Xavi, Puyol and Abidal. They have a potential replacement for Xavi. But there's nobody for Puyol and Abidal. Those 2 issues can only be resolved in the summer.

You're also dealing with motivation problems. Keeping the same hunger after winning so much is a major challenge. It's even affecting Messi. Barca don't have the manager that can push the players... so the players are going to find that drive themselves. You would think they'd do it for Villanova.

Finally, the tactic for countering Barca's system has been drawn by Mou. Other teams are now following the script. Small teams can't do it... but the CL teams certainly can. Barca need to adjust to it.

If Barca get past Milan, then i think there's a chance that they turn the corner this year. If not, it's going to be a boring end of the season for Barca fans.

I have to say I agree with futbol that Alves keeps getting dragged to the middle and leaving his wide man unmarked quite frequently but to say Alba is better at defending than Alves is wrong in so many ways.

I think Dani Alves gets dragged into the middle because when he doesnt stuff like what happened to Mascherano vs Benzema happens.

He often makes those tackle on the other side by covering behind the centerback.

Cant have it both ways, he cant cover that space and the man at the back at the same time. The question is if he makes the best decision between the two every time...he doesnt...but generally speaking he does make the right decision.

On the list of Barca flaws, that one is pretty low.

Alves getting dragged into the middle is because of Barca's narrow defending I think.

Alves is a better attacker than Alba imo. He makes better runs and gets in behind the defense a bit better.

In terms of that 3-3-4, well it's pretty much similar to their usual formation.

Not true at all.

He doesnt go in behind the defence often no, but why would he when Pedro is playing directly in front of him, no longer making runs inside.

Alba on the left plays and literally noone is in front of him, he is also faster than Alves so of course he will go behind.

But that is an extreme small part of the game, Dani Alves does literally everything else better...and I dont exagerrate, literally every single thing else he does better.
