John Carew won’t be playing in Serie A this season. He won’t be the back-up for Milito. At least not for now. Not at Inter. The Norwegian striker failed his medical and is on his way home. There was no sign of the player at Appiano Gentile today: it should have been his first day of training during his 2 week trial period at the club, but he didn’t even make it to the Inter training ground at Pinetina.

The statement — At around 18:00 local time, the Nerazzurri released an official statement: "F.C. Internazionale would like to thank Norwegian striker John Carew for the willingness and professionalism he has shown,” their website said. “His present physical condition however would require him to undergo a rather lengthy period of specific individual fitness work which is not compatible with the needs of the club.” The chase for a replacement for Milito goes on, and it seems unlikely that one will arrive this season.

The reply — “I’m proud to have been given the opportunity to speak to Inter and evaluate this option,” John Carew told Norwegian website Sport.bt.no. “The problem was not tied to the physical and athletic tests, but simply because I couldn’t have been in top form straight away. That’s what Inter were expecting, but I can’t be at my best for a while. I didn’t come here to waste time and I’m proud to have been given the chance. I’m not ruling out the possibility of returning to the football pitch over the next few months. But, right now, I’m focusing on other projects.”
