The characteristic's are so similarly it's like he was cloned, but we all know talent is'nt everything he will have to so much to get near VDS.
I hope he succeeds, be interested to see how he does.
I believe De Gea is an inch or two shorter than VDS eh?
He still has incredibly long arms though.
They're like a full hand span below his waist.
This photo shows it best;
Guy could scratch his kneecaps without bending a part of his body.

The Spanish were never great at paying attention to detail

Re: David De Gea
he was pretty impressive today, made some good reaction saves, and the goal conceded not much he could of done was a good placed header

Reaction saves you say?
Interesting.

I dont know how much you have seen of him Giu, but he is extremely agile and quick for his size, which is why he has been compared to Casillas aswell.

Re: David De Gea
Lol at the long arm, kneecap comment, Giu.
Solid start for De Gea, there was nothing he can do for Chicago's first goal. Pretty much expected either Jones or Smalling to clear it...great header by Gibbs in all fairness.
Made 2 stand out saves in the match: One quick reactioanry save with his legs and another save where he parried a shot onto the post.
27th of July against MLS All Stars should be an even better test for him.

That's the thing about testing your keepers.
You pretty much need everything to go wrong to see their true worth.
They're the last line of defense, and as long as the other one's are sort of doing their job, it's rare for them to shine. I too am interested in the MLS all star game, because that line up has a great deal of pace. May lead to some openings and opportunities for him to take his man.

Re: David De Gea
Spot on, mate.
I think it wouldn't be too bad if Vidic or Ferdinand slip up a bit on purpose to allow de Gea to make a few saves lol. Nah, but with Beckham, Donovan and Henry playing on wednesday, it's gonna be a test for the Utd defense...and hopefully De Gea.

I doubt they would, because it's an international showing and they know they're really just there to make some new fans.
I still can't believe how young De Gea is.
30 is "young" for a keeper.

Re: David De Gea
I hear that he's had a solid start so far... Once his communication with the defenders improves, he'll become even better. Communication is a key part of defending the goal.

Re: David De Gea
Young keepers may have trouble really setting up the back line.
Imagine De Gea screaming at Vidic?
Vidic once showed up late to training.
Everyone got fined 500 euro for showing up before him.

Re: David De Gea
He had a great game v Barca last night. Apart from a tame kick out which could've been costly, he was very solid and looks such at ease.
I love the way he looks comfortable on the ball whenever he recieves it, and whenever he kicks out the ball, it always gets to the intended player...or nearly does. Very important for our keeper to have this skill. He has, and it's almost VDS like.
The only thing he needs to stop doing in the future is to never punch out the ball from a cross, especially if he can catch it instead. It will come with experience.
Very impressed with him..........oh, absolutely nothing he could have done about that brillaint strike from Thiago.

Re: David De Gea
He needs to shake off his nervousness, especially after conceding a goal. After his mistake yesterday, he was in a slump for the rest of the match and you can tell that his confidence was low.
He is still young and will make mistakes, it's natural. Schmiechal also had a shaky start when first played for United, we all know how great he turned out.
He will come good, and SAF will still play him. It will damage him even more if Lindegaard takes his place. Hopefully he will get his mistakes out early in the season(whilst Utd wins) and then gradually get better and better.

Re: David De Gea
Rooney on De Gea.
Some encouraging words
Some encouraging words
Rooney also gave his support to United's new 20-year keeper David de Gea, who has had uncertain moments since his £18.9m summer move from Atletico Madrid.
He said: "I think he's obviously a good shot stopper. I hadn't seen much of him before he signed but he is a good shot stopper and his passing out from the back is alongside Edwin Van der Sar's. He very rarely kicks long to a forward, he always tries to pick someone out.
"He's still young and got a lot to learn but he's working hard and doing well in training. He's a strong character. After the Manchester City game and then West Bromwich Albion he didn't seem to be too affected by the fact that not everything went for him. He was on the training pitch the next day working hard and in the last couple of games he's done well for us. I think he will only get better the more he plays."
