Re: Robbie Sacked
Like I said, far, far too much loyalty, dignity, and class for Abramovich and his crony yes-men boardmembers.Blue wrote:The League Managers Association (LMA) has issued the following statement on behalf of Roberto Di Matteo following his departure from Chelsea Football Club.
Roberto Di Matteo said:
"It was an honour for me to be appointed manager of a club that I loved playing for and one that is so close to my heart. I am extremely proud of the successes and trophies that we were able to bring to the club in recent months.
“Lifting Chelsea's first Champions League trophy, in Munich, was the best achievement in club history and without doubt the highlight of my career to date, both as a player and manager. It is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my life.
“I have a deep and unreserved passion for Chelsea Football Club and I would like to sincerely thank all of the staff, my players and of course the Chelsea fans, for their tremendous and unconditioned support in the intense time I have been the manager at the Bridge. I wish all of them every success for the rest of the season and beyond.”

Interesting piece about the entire story behind what's happened. Similar to the one they (or maybe it was the Telegraph?) did when AVB was sacked.
Don't know how much of it was true, and it does seem a little drastic overall, but if it's true about him being forced to use Torres all this time (which I've suggested for some time now might be the reason behind his constant place in the team), then Roman is just a joke.

Re: Robbie Sacked
Of course its Torres... Mou had to go cos of Sheva, now... Ancellotti n AVB n RDM cos of Torres. Sheva at least was a much better player than Torres.
Re: Robbie Sacked
Why does Roman think he is a better coach than all he's fired? Torres is past it, majority of the teams in the PL have better strikers than him yet we are forced to play him because Roman thinks he is right
If we don't get a new striker in Janurary I don't see us getting CL next season.

We won't be getting a Striker in Jan. We're stuck with Torres now.
Bet Rafa has already told Roman that he 'can' get the best out of Torres.

What does Roman see in Rafa?
The possibility to get something out of his beloved Torres i'm guessing.

Re: Robbie Sacked
The sooner Roman gets rid of his hard-on for Torres, the better off we'll all be. He's now seen off 3 managers and multiple quality strikers who were moved on so he'd feel 'trusted', as well as causing us to miss out on long, long-time target Aguero, and possibly now even Falcao.
Torres OUT NOW.
Torres OUT NOW.

I knew Torres was going to be a bad move, the moment he joined Chelsea.

Re: Robbie Sacked
It should have been Aguero! We would swimming in silverware now ! But noooooooo... why spend 40m on a young, promising, quality striker when u can buy an old, injured, out of form striker for 50m! I dont know if im being stupid here... but I dont get it.
Re: Robbie Sacked
Could have bought Falcao back then for like 20m and we'd all be happy now.

Re: Robbie Sacked
Fantastic piece by Henry Winter, this:
Abramovich must start communicating with the fans or risk alienating himself:

He (Abramovich) will never share the passions gripping those in the stands, understanding their veneration for club legends like Di Matteo, their awareness that success cannot be acquired overnight.
Anyone mixing with Chelsea fans at Turin airport on Wednesday was reminded that they respect Abramovich for what he has done to the club, but they revere Di Matteo.
Such dismay was deepened by the fact that “Robbie” was one of their own. Di Matteo was Chelsea, his name woven with the finest silk into the fabric of the club.
This was Di Matteo, scorer of a goal after 42 seconds in the 1997 FA Cup final, who struck in two other finals, who was named in the club’s greatest XI.
They love Di Matteo, revelling in his successful rescue job on the team last season. It was magical being led back to Wembley by Di Matteo, who had given them such joy at the old Wembley. He also took them to Munich, to glory in the Champions League. He was a good ambassador for a club during a string of public relations’ disasters.
Di Matteo was honest and hard-working. He was successful, overseeing the club’s greatest moment. He worked deftly within the dark corridors of Stamford Bridge, coping in dignified fashion with the egos in the dressing-room, with the courtiers to a clamorous media. He has soul.

Re: Robbie Sacked
So after some initial confusion, it looks like Steve Holland has indeed stayed on as assistant manager. Credit to him though for agreeing to stay time and time again even with all these managers coming and going like a revolving door (R*fa is the 4th he's worked under in 3 years ), and not just throwing his hands up and walking like most would have done.

Re: Robbie Sacked
Said it in the summer, RDM and Chelsea should have parted ways after the CL victory. I knew this moment would have happen, RDM is a classy man he deserved better then this.
I never want a Chelsea legend managing Chelsea because it will only end in heartbreak. Rather have someone like Rafa, lets face it to him managing Chelsea is just another job.But for someone like Di Matteo it was different, it was a life time dream.
When Rafa gets fired, which i have no doubt it will happen in the summer. We can say "oh well bring on the next unlucky bastard."
