Best derby

Well i guess i had a wrong impression for clasico as there is much more then football, and to me that was a kind of derby -> long rivalry that transcends sport. Thats why i consider some NT's as derbys as well.

Speaking of derbies, all of the pro-Betis sentiment on the forum recently is going to utter and complete hell right now. Sevilla making sure everyone knows who really wears the pants in the relationship, 3-0 before halftime.

Make that 4-0 before halftime.

Of course you're going to get high viewership when it's a game between the only two teams that matter in La Liga.

Add in Messi/Ronaldo fanboi's and it's pretty much a wrap.

In reality the Manchester, North London, Merseyside, Milan & Roman derbies are far more entertaining. Hell, even the last Revierderby was enjoyable.

There's no padding possession stats, cantennacio, diving, feigning injuries and mute crowds in those fixtures. I mean half the posters on here don't even watch El Clasico anymore.

Well, Schalke - BVB is not really a derby within one city, but as Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund are practically only a stone throw away from each other, one could consider it almost one. As a matter of fact, in the Ruhr Area we have about a dozen football clubs within a few kilometers, so there are more or less several derbies around, although Schalke - Dortmund is for sure the biggest one.

To many teens across the world , yes he is. I'm sure his record sales are very impressive as well.

I think its fare to judge the best derby by the number of estimated TV viewers.

Of course to the more technical football fans, el classico for example, may be a rubbish derby in terms of football antics like diving rough tackles, etc, but to millions out there, just watching the top 5 best players on earth, on one pitch is good enough and worth it.

Messi and Ronaldo, and in the past the likes of Ronaldinho-Zidane, Figo-Ronaldo, Rivaldo-Raul....all these big names alone draw the massive audiences.

At the end of the day, its a mater of taste. My local Pub team derby can be just as intense and passionate and very exciting.

Not really a derby but a meeting of giants that i always treasure in my heart

AC Milan vs Liverpool

Have massive respect for what they pulled in 05 and if we end up meeting in the forthcoming years then that would put a huge smile in my face.

People regularly get stabbed during the Deportivo Cali Vs. America de Cali derby in Colombia, so I'll go with that one, lol. Although I'd one day like to witness a paulista derby.

Probably NLD for me since El Clasico is not a derby.

NLD is always entertaining and it always has goals-galore. The 3-2 game 2 years ago is probably one of my most favorite games ever.

Short history, pre-Ronaldo, since I assume you mean Messi-Ronaldo rivalry. There's pre-Messi info as well.

Number of viewers these days is historic because of rising internet penetration rates across the third world and increased Television accessibility.

But alas, it's not a derby, so this talk is futile.

You can't use viewing statistics to determine which derby is the best, each person will have a different view and fans of a team in a derby will enjoy watching that game more than any other.

i think he does have a point though.

what is most popular doesnt necessarily mean whats best. in this case they are the same for me (as i think el clasico is the best) but its surely up for debate.

No it's not, both are fallacious because they rely on appealing to popularity

Real-Barca is prolly the most glamorous derby, not just this era but sinces ages. They always have and attract great players, world legends.
But If I were to choice which derby I would attend it would be River-Boca, the atmosphere is just unbelievable. Pity that the current quality of Argentine League is pretty crap.

The Rome derby to be completely honest
