The game needs defensive intelligence.

Like when the opposition player makes a run, your AI teammate should track him.

Also is there any way to make your CB's always stay in a line? One of my CB's always seems to commit and leaves a gap.

I actually run that same formation in online as well. I'll never understand how people can enjoy parking the bus in a video game. I have a buddy who runs with 5 in the back and I've seen countless teams just pull everyone back to defend. To each his/her own. I tend to start every Fifa with a new formation and towards the end I begin to create something new. Towards the end of Fifa 12 I became infatuated with this style (I love to boss the midfield with this formation) and it creates a lot of confusion when the passing comes together.

I've noticed that new video games seem to lack the understanding of difficulty level. The computer to me seems the same level on Legendary and the next one down, the only difference is the amount of ish that happens in their favor. I rather not stress myself with that (Fifa already gives me enough disadvantages).

Does anyone have an issue with changing players in this Fifa? I can't stand it!!! I swear they managed to digress in a few aspects of the game this year.

Yeah same here, first job. And I think I will keep it for a long time too...such a fun team.

Agree about the football and the changing formation. Coming up with new formations for teams is probably my favourite thing in career mode. I mean, I like the mode and all but as a Barca fan, I know after a while it can be boring. However, what keeps it intresting is finding a new formation to change the dynamic somehow and try and get it to work.

My next aim is trying to do what Pep couldnt. Play with a false 9 in Messi and another 9 (he used Ibra). Naturally my first thought was David Villa, but he is declining and he rarely gets on the end of through passes anymore Sad

I have tried defensive tactics with other teams in past Fifa's. I started a season with Inter I think and recreated the Catenaccio formation and tactics. It was actually quite fun...for the first 5 minutes. Untill you realise, Lecce are dominating me, they just went 1 nil up via fluke goal and now I have no real way back into the game lol

I agree and disagree.

I agree because your right. I am playing super highline, pressing and offside trap, and yet somehow my leftback plays the striker onside.

I disagree only in the fact that this rarely happens the same with with the CPU.

I played a highline and pressed in career mode, however I conceded cheap goals, so I dropped the line back and limited the pressing.

However that doesn't seem to make a difference. CPU always seem to score lucky goals.

Also do the arrows in the formation editor for example tell your midfielders to defend/track back, or do they track back/defend automatically?

I dont know, I think it depends on the team your playing.

For example, I have arrow back on Xavi, but not Iniesta. But Iniesta is back if the opponant is not playing directly and are sort of building up play.

Though, I can say for sure, I manually control Iniesta often to press the centerback while the other 3 forwards are close to the other 3 defenders. Barca are not the best team to refer to when talking about general tactics because they play differently.

I can't speak to the credibility of the site beyond saying that it seemed accurate on previous versions, to be honest. I rarely play a manager save long enough to see players peak and begin to decline (bar Carragher, and similar) as I tend to buy young.

With Benzema it could be a matter of form, as well.

There's another site with all the potentials and the user says the overall is based on average playing time and average performance.

So if the players does better than average, then he'll go higher.

Also the actual predicted overalls are apparently taken directly from FIFA.

So I got crushed 5-1 by Inter shortly after posting in this thread. I hadn't played Fifa in about a week and I was rusty as hell. I was shaky on defense and only managed to score in the 80th minute. Drew the next game after that and finally got back to my winning ways the following game (1-0 - Quintero scored). Pato ended his goal-less drought after 10 games (he picked up a goal and assisted one as well).

@The Franchise, I will post my Chile line-up tomorrow, Fringe is calling me!

How do you mean?

I believe he is. I tend to only fuzz with the Attacking and Defensive setting - I would assume I have him set on low offense and high defense.

I think he's better as a B2B.

I have him in pivot alongside Sahin and he usually does well. Good dribbling, passing, vision, tackling, stamina, shooting etc.

Ideally I wanted my DM to not attack at all, but I'd be wasting Vidal's attacking qualities if I played him as a pure DM.

Can Gonzalez play as a DM?

For everyone who plays career mode here, how about a new career mode save where we all pick the same team and see how far we get? Like transfers, results etc?

I was thinking maybe a mid-table/lower side?

How does this MLS Cup thing work? Is it just a regular league?

Or do you have to finish in the top 5 to make the play offs or somethings?

And what's the playoffs?

MLS has 2 trophies. ! for finishing top of the combined league at the end of the regular season, called the Supporters' Shield. The other is the MLS cup, which comes from the play-offs. To qualify for the play-offs you need to finish in the top 4/5 of your division (top 8/10 overall) then you'll go into a home and away knock out round until you reach the final.
