Re: How good was Guti at his best?
inconsistent. could look like a world beater on game and a pub player the next... he's not a madrid legend. he's just very public.

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
Not that good.
Even on fire, he couldnt defend a lick, had zero workrate and didnt really beat players.
His final pass was the only thing great about him, when he decieded to show play.

Used to be Goat but his temper was always a problem. Inconsistent describes him best.

A great passer of the ball. That's about it i guess.
Too inconsistent to be in the same level as the mentioned above.

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
Though everyone might agree that on his day, he has one of the best final balls of his generation. But, his overall play wasn't good enough to be considered as a great midfielder of his time and i do think even on his day, there were many better midfielders than him.Kizu wrote:On his day you couldn't find a better mdf . Re: How good was Guti at his best?
Through-balls and passing that's about it
Had 0 work-rate, had 0 defensive skills, had 0 regard for managers and other players that were not Spanish.
Loved his final ball but was a player I ultimately hated as a whole and was glad to see leave Real Madrid

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
he is a liability, thats just the best way to describe him. Even his passing is hugely overrated, producing one magic moment in like 10 games( its more like 5 but still) doesnt deserve lot of praise. His lack of work ethic put his teammates under constant pressure.
I am not necessarily talking about this forum, but many of the madrid fans I know consider him a legend which is so bizzare. But i guess people often remember the magic moments of a player and forget the rest.

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
I don't consider him a legend, not at all. But his vision, creativity and through-balls(long/short) were the best.

Disagree on the term "Best" as Laudrup's was way better.Kizu wrote:I don't consider him a legend, not at all. But his vision, creativity and through-balls(long/short) were the best.

Guti controlled games. It wasn't just a magic pass every 10 games.

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
Guti controlled what? lol no, the guys above said it, he had monstrous talent for playing the final pass, his vision was fantastic, but the rest...awful. A shame because few players have that kind of gift and he did nothing with it.

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
Highly overrated. There's a reason why he's never spoken amongst other Madrid greats of the era.

Re: How good was Guti at his best?

Re: How good was Guti at his best?
Guti rarely ever controlled games.
He was too lazy to come deep enough to get all the touch needed to do so. He had a spell playing deep, but that was in the same team as Zidane and co. He obviously didnt control anything as time, he was just an akward fitting cog.

Pretty much everything has been said.
His final ball was a joy at times. Had fantastic vision. But other attributes were meh

Yes, when Zidane was in the team mostly. And are you going to say he ran games, while Zidane was alongside him? Probably not.
