Great read Arq. I do agree, but only to an extent.

The CL imo, is more superior.

But I can see your understanding of why you feel the Europa is greater. Far too many teams nowadays aim for top 4 (or whatever they need to qualify for the CL in their respected leagues) purely for generating cash instead of playing for what all football clubs should aim for - winning trophies. Every team in the Europa strives to win the thing, as at the end of the way it IS a cup that any team will be proud to win.

Money has killed the passion in what used to be a great comp. It still is a great comp. But the Fifa rule of "third in group stages go into Europa" makes it sound as if it's a comp that is not highly rated. Therefore, the Europa is seen by many as a comp that is of Europe's 'rejected' teams. And it's dissapointing.

OT: Today we just had a display on why the EL is the greatest competition in the history of sports. Instead of a borefest between Madrid-City and a stalemate like Chelsea-Juve we got the Stellar match of Athletic Club vs Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona; Fenerbache vs Marsielle, VFB and Stau Bucharest, the scintillating Hannover and Twente. And of course the match of the week, Liverpool vs Young Impressionable and Pubesent Boys in a 3-5 thriller.

Soon we will all accept the superiority and harvest upon this tourney's glory

Totally not amused by Basel's defense atm. In the 10th minute all defenders were idlöy ball-watching maybe 10 metres in front of their own goal and the Genk attacker De Ceulaer could stroll through at leisure and score the 1:0 as no one felt responsible to defend there... Shortly there after, there was a similar situation as in the Dortmund match yesterday when ManCity got a hand pen, only this time the ref decided not to give the pen. *sighs*

And now the 2:0. Well played by Genk, but still this shouldn't have been allowed. And unfortunately Yann Sommer was down a bit too fast and Vossen could score. Still the Basel defense real should have done better, too.
