Re: Del Piero in Sydney
Sydney lost 2-3 today to Newcastle.
ADP scored his first goal. A great freekick.
He was given man of the match in the game despite the loss. I don't think he was best on ground necessarily, but he was excellent again.
Sydney sucked again first half. Defence is a mess. Still missing the best defender at the club and he should be back soon. Excellent player and will make a huge difference.
The captain was up to his normal abysmal passing and defending and was subbed early to cheers lol.
The coach just doesnt seem to realise you are meant to pick the best 11 players...
-----
Anyway... on to good news:
The last half an hour the team was much improved and looked good. ADP very involved and Emerton, who is the other marquee player, was moved to the wing and completely changed the game. Whereas he is poor at RB.
Almost won the game with a tight finish.
Finally, the club has signed Jason Culina. Probably the best passer Australia has produced in my lifetime. He's coming back from injury but he should slot into midfield and he's quality so should change our game. Very exciting. Culina formerly played for PSV Eindhoven.

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
Syndey were unable to put 3 passes together and most of their forward play involved hoofing it into space and crossing fingers. None of their players can control the ball or pass and their defenders are lazy, refer to Newcastles 3rd goal for an excellent example of this.
So often Sydney would go forward, ADP was in space and his team mates would simply ignore him and play some woeful pass and turn over possesion cheaply.
ADP did what he could, when he gets the ball he almost always beats 1-2 players and produces what he can, Sydney's running off the ball is terrible so he doesn't have many options, probably the laziness of the defenders has worked its way into the ranks.
Honestly, I think ADP simply isnt suited to Australia. I thought it would be great to see him finish his career in my home town and play in a team where he would get a solid 90 mins every week but I'm sad to see his career end in this way, being surrounded by 10 clowns on the field.

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
^^I hate views like this. Very insulting.
The game is very young here and Sydney's team is rubbish atm. ADP came to fix things and hats off to him. He's actually doing something constructive with the end of his career helping football grow elsewhere in the world.
The team will improve every aspect of play you speak about without a doubt.
Running off the ball: Will come with time and understanding of playing with him. Half these guys just stepped off playing in parks. They have no idea what a player like Del Piero expects of them. In fact he personally said they aren't lazy at all. He quoted that they need to stop running 'a lot and start running correctly'. Completely right.
It also hasn't helped that the coach has made poor selections on the wings and up front in both games so far. I can tell you straight now if I selected the team it would play better lol.
Lazy defenders: They aren't lazy, they just aren't very good.
Fabio, LB, is great going forward but clumsy 1v1. Emerton is wasted at RB and there are better RBs in the squad. The CBs have been poor, but Sydney are missing their best defender who is a superb player. Defence will improve out of sight when he is back in as he is the leader as well.
Note this is an entirely new back 4 in both games!
'Can't Control/Can't Pass': Again... selection problems. And again I can tell you it will improve.
Emerton will be pushed up field when players are fit. He's not a clown at all. Played 10 years in the EPL.
Culina has been signed. One of the best ball players ever produced here and will aid the passing game by a mile. He will be the principal deep-playmaker.
Bosschaart, the best defender, will come back and he is the ball-playing defender in the team.
Antonis was injured in both games. He is an excellent passer despite being 18. Very promising and will make Europe easily.
The passing will come... Please stop writing this project off after 2 games ffs. He was awarded 'Man of the Match' and the team is playing at about 20%... He'll be fine and a huge success.

You hate the objective opinion of another forum user because it doesn't agree with your views and therefore what I posted was insulting to someone, though I'm not sure who.
All I did was outline what I saw on the weekend based on absolutely no emotion because I don't care who wins, I just want to see good football.
The NSL wasn't far off this standard and those guys were amateur footballers.

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
For one your opinion isn't objective. That is a falsified statement in itself...
I'm just providing my opinion in response and explaining why I don't agree with you.
I don't hate your 'subjective opinion' because it doesn't agree with me at all... I dislike these views for a simple reason. People belittle A-League for the sake of it and it achieves nothing. Constructive criticism is the way to go.
Don't get me wrong... I agree with you on every point you made almost... Its very frustrating watching, but its just your approach I don't like.
So then I pointed out for you why I think you're wrong with informed opinion.
A-League has far to go for sure... and ADP can help it grow. There should never have been an expectation among Juve fans that he was coming to play with superstars.
Anyway, since you took my first sentence as the only one to focus on... I also explained why the clowns he played with will improve. Don't worry it will happen.

Your opinion is pure dross simply because without any distinct insight into the wonderfully progressing league that is the A-League, you jump directly to insulting ADP's decision to play in Australia and do not acknowledge that Sydney FC is a relatively young team built upon a long term project which will take time to be in fruition.
A League is a league which has all the pre-requisites to grow as a league in its ambition and astounding progress since its inauguration in 2004 along with an increasing awareness and fan base. Judging the league and the disparity between ADP and his teammates along with having Sydney FC as a representation of the league itself is incredibly harsh and downright insulting.
If you actually trusted ADP's wisdom and decision you would realize he has taken matters into his own hands to seek his personal happiness in a new environment along with acknowledging that his presence, play and arrival will create a quantum leap in augmentation in a young and ambitious league.
I regretted his decision not to come to Liverpool (out of pure selfishness from me) yet all the power and respect to him for making such a decision which would benefit him, his family and Australasian football itself.

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
My opinion of the performance on Saturday was without emotion or bias, so it was certainly objective and of course the last paragraph was subjective, I forgot about that.
I didn’t reply to your other points because I didn’t have a problem with them. You presented valid arguments as to why you believe Sydney will improve and I agree that some of the points you mention may improve their performance but my opinion of Sydney FC can only be based on what I have seen so far.
I am not expecting Serie A quality but as a paying spectator, I don’t think the expectation to put 3 passes together is unreasonable and judging my the reaction in the Italian papers, I don’t think any Italian, including ADP, was expecting it to be this bad.

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
I understand. I've been extremely frustrated by the performances so far because they've been no better/worse than last year. Despite having an excellent squad there's no improvement yet.
Only thing I would say is... Italian fans shouldn't really have expected anything and I don't think ADP did either. I know he'd be embracing it with an open mind and I don't think its all doom and gloom.
I think he'll enjoy his stay. Another point I'd make is the guy is 37 and he's at about 40% of his athletic capabilities... I think moving somewhere like this was a good decision over the EPL. He'll enjoy the country and he'll finish his career scoring goals and bringing joy to people rather than being paid to sit on a bench somewhere in cold, rainy Europe.
Good decision for me, and I don't see why more shouldn't follow in his footsteps. Thanks ADP for breaking the ice!

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
How could we let him go.............he scores again and has been playing 90 mins every game. He is proving Juventus wrong and I'm happy at that.
Re: Del Piero in Sydney
Sydney won the first Sydney derby today 1-0. Goal to Del Piero.
He won a penalty with some delightful footwork, beat 2 players in tight space and was brought down. Scored the pen, but had to retake it. This time the keeper saved it but he scored on the rebound.
Overall, probably his least impressive performance so far, but still excellent. Everything going through him, playing a little deeper and showed his quality on the ball as usual.
Should have scored earlier in the game with his quality of finishing, but in the end got the job done.
Best player was probably Emerton, Australian national.
Forza Ale! Forza Sydney!

I wanted him to stay but you can't compare Serie A football and Conte tactics to Australias league and Sidney tactics. Imagine ADP running in defense as a rb or dm and than going to attack he would fall in 10 mins

10 mins? He is a forward what does this have to do with RB and DM?
Last year he played 120 min vs Bologna in the Coppa! Devi, he can still play 60 min at least of Serie A no doubt.

In Conte's tactics it's requried to run a lot all CF/SS/ST/ must come back to defend which means they will act as RB/DM/ANC or extra CB than run in attack just notice that and u'll often see Vucinic on the LB as LWB that's why Matri is so tired and can't play. Del Piero can't play 90 mins in that tactics against bologna we were still playing 4-3-3 and del piero was not required to track back

Re: Del Piero in Sydney
Guys. Del Piero has a small injury and is missing this game. Shame because he is really needed in a very big game. I'm sure we'll lose now.
I don't think it's anything big though. He should recover for next week.

Best team in the league were able to expose Sydney for how bad they are. Embarassing.
However, attack actually looked good without ADP. Yau looks a good player who could gel with ADP.
