Bacary Sagna reveals doubts about Arsenal transfer policy

"I expected Robin's departure," Sagna, 29, told French newspaper L'Equipe. "But Alex, that was a surprise. He's 24 and had three years on his contract.
"When you see your two best players from last season leave, you ask yourself questions."

"In the street, supporters sometimes come to see me. I can understand that they're annoyed. I'm like them - I don't understand everything," added Sagna.

"In May, I watched Manchester City's parade on television. I watched Samir and Gael lift the trophy. It makes you want that," said the France international.

His own contract runs to the end of the 2013-14 season and when asked whether anyone at Arsenal had spoken to him about extending it, he replied: "No, nobody."

Why is it that players of nowadays increasingly have the impulsive urge to say such verbally outspoken opinions? I appreciate an opinionated player which separates one from typical managers and players with their routine monologues yet was it really necessary for Bacary to add an element of doubt to Wenger's fresh project? Did he see any benefit coming from his opinion?

Very disappointing coming from Sagna as he is one to keep his head down and work.

Not silly, Arsenal will now start contract negotiations in the upcoming weeks and Sagna will be a happy camper.

Anyways he's completely right to have doubts about Arsenal.

It depends. If he talked to Wenger to whoever is in responsible for transfer negotiation first and they never responded, then he is right to make statements like this to the press. If not, then he should not be doing this.

Or perhaps managers should have a strict code where they don't let players do this kind of thing and they enforce it, similar to what Mourinho has at Real Madrid. Some responsibility must be Wenger's. If he told his players "You are free to question me inside this room and I will take your complaints into account for the future, but if you do it on public you will not play the following 2 matches because that only serves to bring negative attention, doubts and angry fans" this would stop happening pretty soon.

Bacary was our most consistent player in recent years, one of our two world-class players and never really complained about anything. He certainly deserves it.
