Fede Higuain named MLS player of the week
Columbus Crew forward Federico Higuaín was named MLS Player of the Week on Monday after tallying three goals and one assist in wins over Toronto FC and the New England Revolution.
The Argentine joined the Crew from CA Colón in late July, made his debut (and got an assist) on Aug. 19 and has enjoyed a fast start.
On Aug. 22 he set up Eddie Gaven’s early goal vs. Toronto then scored the eventual game-winner in the 58th minute. On Saturday, Higuaín scored on two first-half free kicks as the Crew outscored New England, 4-3.
"It's amazing to have talent like this,” Columbus coach Robert Warzycha said.
The Crew (10-8-6) are four points behind D.C. United for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and meet the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday.
