If he were greedy he would take the 100 grand a week. The man wants trophies, and trophies he will get at City or Chelsea.
Ambition may well have something to do with it, but don't dare pretend money isn't directly involved in this as well... it's just as false and asinine as those claiming Sterling is somehow morally corrupt for simply acting as players do.
We were the greatest team 30 years ago.
Maybe he should sign a contract for 30 seasons.
We're not a title challenging side anymore. And you can quote me where I say we'll never win it with Brendan in charge.
We had one good fluky season where the whole PL was rebuilding / had new managers in and took advantage of it. And then by progressing, we sold the key player for our fluky season only to replace him with 6-7 squad players. We took 2 steps forward and 5 back with selling Suarez.
If Sterling wants to leave for trophies, so be it. He has a better chance of doing so leaving the club. The ambition we're showing losing Suarez, Gerrard, Agger (who should of gone, but replaced with LOVREN? ) and Sterling all in the space of around of 1 year.
mr-r34 wrote:Let's not forgot the manner the situation has been handled by Sterling and his agent, RA can defend the lil *bleep* all he wants, as Sterling has every right to ask to leave if he wants to win trophys or money, but to go behind the club and do a back hand interview to force a move, *bleep* off lol.
What the *bleep* are you on about?
All he pretty much said this was NOT FOR MONEY to defend HIMSELF.
It's not his fault Rodgers thinks he's above the club, and will "punish" him to make himself look bigger than he is.
"Force a move"
STERLING QUOTED:
“I don’t want to be perceived as the money-grabbing 20-year-old, I just want to be perceived as the kid who loves to play football,” said Sterling, in a BBC interview.
“It's not about the money at all. It's never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That's all I talk about.
He's stated both he and the club are waiting until the end of the season so he can evaluate his options. RODGERS did the same thing last season. Why wasn't he ridiculed for his decision to wait?
He's seeing SENIOR PLAYERS leave every summer, only to be replaced with a tier below for a "rebuilding Liverpool". He's been at the club for almost 6 years now and we've done the same shit for 6 years. There's no harm in him wanting to wait.
Why is Jordan Henderson free of all the bullshit? His contract ends in one years time. That's sooner than Sterling's. City are losing Milner, and will be looking for a replacement. Jordan Henderson has also rejected his contract offered from Liverpool. Is he just a "money grabbing whore"?
Sterling has EVERY RIGHT to wait. He will have talks to Liverpool come season end. He's looking after himself, and his career. He won't be signing anything near the region of 150k if he decides to leave.
The whole Arsenal link is lazy journalism.
They've been linked to him after he "delayed" his contract 3 years ago.

But yeah. What an overrated twat. Let's hope he goes to Bayern, eh?

A challenge that only happened because they had a player who had, arguably, the greatest season for a striker in modern premier league history.
This brief flirtation with greatness was quickly ended when he ran off to spain, and they subsequently were dumped out of the champions league and domestic league running fairly quickly.
He doesn't want to feast off the odd FA cup scraps that will be left with modern City and Chelsea having to drop priority for the competition . Sterling will be vindicated in a couple of hours when the likes of Sanchez,Giroud,Cazorla run riot over a Skrtel-less Liverpool. Sterling wants to be around those type of players.

uh huh, how many trophies have Arsnal won in the last decade? How many have Liverpool? Liverpool put up a bigger title challenge than Arsneal have since Sterling was 10...
It's about money more than trophies, don't kid yourself. Arsenal have no realistic prospects of winning anything big and they are never in contention bar 06 and 08. So what is his ambition exactly?

The thing with the whole arsenal link is they wouldnt pay him 150 either, so it's useless, his only hope is city/chelsea.

well you could have linked to it too. But you didn't and I'm not going to bother googling it, so I'll just respond to the part quoted.
It was Liverpool who started taking the thing into the public domain, by telling media how Sterling rejected this 'amazing' contract proposal.
Which is a pretty shitty thing to do tbh.
Way to go, now the fans are turning onto your best youngster and he felt the need to dig himself deeper in a hole with this painful TV interview.
That's not true though. Liverpool's comments on the "amazing proposal" came only AFTER information began coming out about Sterling refusing a previous deal and wanting more, as well as indications that there was potential outside interest.
You're usually quite measured in your discussions Hapless, and tend to speak only with solid information. I'm a bit confused why you're suddenly so willing to run with whatever you hear on this one...

Right now we're playing the best football in the league and on course to perhaps finish 2nd with the FA Cup again, so yeah we do have realistic prospects. We're on the up.
That said, Sterling should have some faith. What Liverpool needs is their stars to stay until they get in some quality players or they will be stuck in a perpetual cycle of having to simply replace their stars each year and stay stagnant, like what happened with us.

You could have said that Liverpool were on the up last season and now look at this one. Jibers is talking about concrete things, "We're on the up" is highly subjective.

No direspect intended at all, but compared to Liverpool we have world class players in Sanchez, Ozil, Koscielny, Wilshere and Ramsey who are only going to improve. For the first time in years we have a quality squad who can challenge for the trophies as we have for the last 2 years.
Our only problem was injuries and now that's getting better as well. With another 100m or so to spend this summer, we can further improve this team without selling anyone.

did you 'pick' the team you support? Because I didn't, really.
Funny thing about this is of course that Liverpool would've probably wiped the floor with us in the CL 10 years ago.

maybe I should switch from Liverpool to barca then tell you what your club is doing wrong and how to fix it in every thread.Hapless_Hans wrote:MR BOND wrote:gota love football fans. the only people in the world that look down there nose at people like thay are peasents because the team thay picked is doing better than another.Hapless_Hans wrote:

I haven't seen a good game from Sterling in a while, well, except against Lithuania lol.
I'm not emotionally attached to Sterling. He's a great talent, but he's not realized that talent just yet and he's not worth what he's asking. He's certainly not helping Liverpool win anything right now if that's supposedly all he's playing for.

Hendo now rejects a 80k contract. As per usual, a new TV deal inky inflates salaries while changing little else.

At least he has some ground in rejecting it. Considering he is the next LFC captain. Although 80k is probably what he deserves. Can see him signing for 90-100k

Re: The Raheem Sterling Appreciation Thread
I'd much rather keep Henderson than Sterling if I had to choose. It's also ridiculous that we have offered more to Sterling than Hendo in the first place, there's no way Sterling is contributing more than Henderson and the other is 20-year-old and the other 25 and supposedly our new captain.
Furthermore, we are already weak in central midfield: Henderson, Lucas and Allen are our CMs right now if you exclude Gerrard. Can't tell where Rodgers is going to play Can. And personally I don't think either of Lucas and Allen are good enough to start for us week in, week out. Henderson would also be exactly what Manchester City need. Perhaps Chelsea, too.
We should be offering Henderson £100k per week and Sterling £80k, not the other way round.

So does Sterling, he's a professional footballer and has the grounds to reject anything that he believes isn't worth what he brings.
And if we're being honest he's been just as important to Liverpool's success over the last couple of years as Henderson has.

I'd just like to point out the "Henderson rejects new 80k contract" is not the same as "The Daily Star reports Henderson rejects new 80k contract"
