Looks a great deal imo. If Rooney gets injured, we're basically screwed in the goal scoring front. Chicha is in bad form, Berbs is off, Welbeck is great but is not prolific yet. We need another world class striker.

Thing is though, even if we lost all but one our strikers, we'd be absolutely fine because we'd be better in possession, more defensively secure and we'd create more chances if we had more midfielders in the team.

What you've said is basically the equivalent of all those fans saying we'd be screwed without Ronaldo. Goals are just the finishing touch to all the hard work done by the midfielders and defenders behind them. Ronaldo didn't contribute to the build up much at all, in fact he was quite detrimental to it, so when we lost him and brought Valencia in, surprise, surprise, someone else started getting 40 goals a season.

There's no way RVP would be on 220K a week with us.

Maybe in some games we'll be fine, but there will be games where we need that added bit of quality up front to get us the goals, other than Rooney. Without him, we can at times be very wasteful.

After Berbatov, I think United are too scared to spend big. In fact, some United official (I think it was David Gill) publicly vouched not to make such spending anymore after Berbatov, and so far it has been true.

So forget Cavani and especially Falcao.

Why would they want Cavani and Falcao? Yes they are great players but they are not proven in the EPL and both would cost between 40-50 mill. United need help ASAP to compete and take the title back from City, they can't have any settling in period they need production right away which RVP will give if he's healthy.

I think some of you are forgetting that they are going to pick up a top 10 striker in the world for 22 mill. That is good business and he is a proven goalscorer in the EPL when healthy. Who cares what they pay him, in the grand scheme of things if they pay him 200k or 220k it really doesn't make a difference for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

If this move goes through it's all about the EPL for United. They used to be the bully in the EPL and City came to there playground and punched them right in the mouth and told them to go play somewhere else (cough 6-2 cough)

SAF hates City and he knows they have to get more world class players on the team not just people who fit his system if he wants to compete with City year in and year out for the next couple years or City will own the EPL.

It has always seemed to me that SAF places the EPL first not the CL and you can tell by the way he builds his teams. I think he knows right now he can't magically make a few signings and compete with Barca, Bayern or Real so like I said this is all about being king of the hill in the EPL IMO and it the right move to make.

Adding the best player from germany and the EPL to a squad that reached 3 finals in 4 years isn't a sign of competing with European best?

Theoretically, we can't win without a proper functioning midfield. However SAF always prove us wrong. I just hope we'll sign a top class midfielder to win BPL in style, unlike 2010/2011. Come on United!!
