Where will we finish this season?
Predictions on where we'll finish in the league?
Predictions on where we'll end up in the Europa?
The FA cup, Carling Cup etc.
Don't forget to add why. 8)
Be great to bump this at the end of the season. :D
Feel free to answer this after the transfer window is closed (as that's where I'll be making my predictions. :) :P

League - 5th
There are four better teams than us.
Anything could happen in the cups, so I'll just say semis in all three.

United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal? Do you think you will beat Spurs and Newcastle?

we don't really have to beat any of the top teams, all we got to do is take max points from the rest of the teams

Lol my mistake there, yeah I'm pretty confident about finishing higher than Spurs and Newcastle. Obviously they will both be hanging around that 4-5th spot, but I think with BR's style we'll drop less points against lesser sides.
To be honest I'm very optimistic about 4th place. Sole reason for that being Di Matteo. Kudos to him taking you guys to the summit of Europe, but I really question his ability to play to the strengths of your guys' amazing squad. His style (going by last season) definitely won't break down many smaller clubs that will park the bus against you guys. Really, had Chelsea had another coach, I wouldn't be half as optimistic about 4th place as I am now.
Kick answer me this, just a yes or no (I don't want to derail the thread), are you happy with Di Matteo in charge of your team?

Re: Where will we finish this season?
Yes, Without a doubt. Not because he is an amazing manager and not because he is an underrated tactician but because The senior players give it all for him, they want to win for him which is the main reason we won the CL. I believe we will have more of the same from them and the younger players will soon realise they too have to give 100% for RDM or they will be benched for the senior players who do give 100%. That is why I don't want anyone else in charge at present.
I feel Should AVB fail again Spuds will go down and unless Newcastle replicate their form from last year I doubt they will finish that high, however 5th will be tough. Allen and Borini will have to do well should you have any hope for 5th.

Re: Where will we finish this season?
Despite our recently impressive play and high hopes, I see us finishing no higher than 5th. My prediction is 5th-6th. BR and his vision is one of a magnitude that will take a considerable time to install into our squad along with its finer tendencies. It is a system which shall take at least 2-3 years for it to come into full effect projected with the FSG ambition. Finishing 5th will not be a disappointed solely for the reason that other teams have strengthened considerably as either its bad luck or just excuses, call it what you will.
Our club is now well and truly turning a new leaf (excuse the cliche) as instant success and similar expectations would border on cruelty.
I personally fear how we will fare against big teams this year as this system despite all its positivity and bright outlook, I see many potential gaps and flaws (barriers) that can prove as hindrances to the ultimate structural progress of our team mentality and of course, Rodger's ability to pin point and neutralize the problems. More so, it will come down mostly to how he handles the arising negatives that can plague his tactics and system as to me this is the largest challenge he will face. Will he stick to his vision with minor fixes? Or will he scrap his plan completely and go for the safer and low key route.
Until then let us unite and keep faith in our young and bright Irishman who is bound for success in his career along with keeping faith on FSG and John Henry.

Everton will be 8th actually, we will be 5th
I agree with Arq btw you should'nt really be disappointed if you finish 6th, because of your last few seasons of disappointment it has allowed the top 8 to be as strong as quite frankly it's ever been.
It's so competitive now, a lot of positions can be swapped around.
I think the top 4 is on lock really be 5th and 6th is up for grabs.
For either of us to finish top 4 it will take a major cock up from Chelsea and i can't really see it and i think Spurs will disappoint.
Even Everton if they can start well for once will be up there.

I'm not buying it with Di Matteo.....Chelsea will finish around 5th-6th with him. Their new signings are all young, will need time.
Kill me for it, but I have us finishing above them.

Would love it, because then it opens up the CL race.
I can't see it though.

Re: Where will we finish this season?
Di Matteo is no tactical mastermind, the likes of Stoke will park the bus and let Di Matteo orchestrate a way to break them And this year they don't have Drogba to score out of nothing.

Re: Where will we finish this season?
No, but they have the creativity in Hazard, Oscar, and Mata, along with the general ability of Lampard, Torres (yes, he can still win a game), and others to break down a team like that, assuming the players can gel. It's a big assumption to think they'll all settle this season and perform consistently, but any one of those players has the capability of winning a match on his day.

Re: Where will we finish this season?
Torres looked on fine form yesterday and had we not lost Ivanovic we would have won IMO. We were the better team leading up to that point.
We did well to get close to winning despite being down a man. Against the favourites in City.
Doubting Di Matteo

Re: Where will we finish this season?
In the league I see a solid 6th place. I could even see you guys finishing 5th ahead of Spurs (this season).
Really anywhere from 5th-7th, but I see 6th as the most realistic place.
Depends a lot on how the transfer market fares for some teams during the rest of the window though (specifically Spurs).

Welcome back Arq!!!
Think we'll finish about 5th. Still waiting until transfers are done and dusted though.
