I don't think he ever had a problem.

After so many injuries he lost his speed. His game was mostly based on his pace.

Couldn't adapt after losing his speed, although it must be said that he is still fast just not the fastest anymore.

Unfortunate injuries which equated to loss of confidence hence the loss of form.

I would say that same thing as whiskyman said. I don't think his skills ever disappeared, just the form and confidence due to injuries.

Also, the expectations and price tag never matched each other, so most fan got really disappointed by it. If his price would have been 15-20mil€ and he would not have been a former WPOTY then I doubt anyone would have been disappointed. Winning fans over becomes harder year by year if you keep failing to fulfill expectation and Kaka's last chance was pretty much against Bayern.
