Premier League's top shot stoppers from last season
From talk sport.
Surprised to see De Gea top, he really was awful at the start of the season.

Not a fan of judging GKs from statistics though it tells 10 % of the story.

No it doesn't most of them are average/awful GK's with Hennessey being a prime example.

you need to look at the stats of total mistakes made by a goalkeeper

Yeh it could just be teams with poor defenses, who allow the GK to make a lot of stops.

An average of 10.2 shots conceded a game isn't too bad.

Re: Premier League's top shot stoppers from last season
If someone takes a weak shot, the ball rolls along the grass at a snail's pace and De Gea stops it with his foot while chirpsing the fit blonde in the crowd, that counts as a "shot saved"
Very misleading statistics

That scenario is the same for everyone though.

De Gea made amazing reflex saves just as much as everyone else if not more.

De Gea is not the one to use that logic on lol, he's the type that sometimes messes up those, he is a shot stopper primarily.

It doesn't make him the best goalkeeper in the league though and it certainly doesn't mean Henessey is in the top 10
Just means he had to make a lot of saves, because of how open Man Utd were for the majority of the season.
If you put any good GK at Man Utd, last season the stats probably would have been similar.
The stat's more tell you even the midfield cover or defence was poor than the quality of a GK.

I doubt you would be using that logic had schezny been on the list, let alone no.1.
-----------
Proud of DDG.

You seem to have forgotten the amount of shots from out the box players were taking against Utd early in the season.

Nah Mole, say what you want about De gea and his mistakes, the guy is a shot stopper, the most talented shot stopper in the world, so the fact that he has aa nice save percentage is not a coincidence .
And it's certainly not down to the remarkable midfield protection offered by Carrick , Scholes etc.

Re: Premier League's top shot stoppers from last season
Nah i havent, it's just not represent of how good a GK is....
For example it's highly likely Given topped these list's year in year out at Newcastle because of how much work he used to do due to how shit the defence was.
Does it mean he was anywhere near the best GK in the league at the time? ofcourse not.
This is aimed not just at De Gea btw, but the whole idea of the thread.

So what does that mean for the other keepers who are not on the list like Krul and Chesney.....are you claiming that they simply let easy shots go in, or that your Arsenal/Newcastle defenses are just so water-tight that they didn't let up any easy shots? ()

You don't know that, nobody knows that....You're just guessing

So according to you, Man United must have had weak midfield cover and a poor defense...
Yet they had the 2nd best defensive record in the league
Poor MF cover, poor defense, yet 2nd best defensive record.......De Gea

Re: Premier League's top shot stoppers from last season
Krul isn't a shot stopper, he was never going to be anywhere near the top of this list.
So according to you shot stopping makes you the best GK in the league ?
ok then
I think we can agree on Henessay is the 10th best GK too
And i dont know about Arsenal, but it's very difficult to get shot's on goal against us because of how well we defend the middle of the pitch.
A lot of the goals we concede were due to lack of pace and teams exploiting our shitty fullbacks.
So yeah i would'nt be suprised if Man Utd allowed more shots on goal than we do.
Also our stat's would be mis-leading as when we lost we lost 5-0 lol.
Man Utd leaked the most shots on goal of anyone last season, it does'nt make someone GOAT tho, it just means he had a lot of saves to make and the majority of them were likely to be standard saves.

We had the 2nd best defense in the league....yet DDG made the most saves because of our weak defense....

Not your weak defense as such, the cover given to the defence.....
It gave team's lots of space in the final third for much of the season and forced DDG to make lots of saves.
Like i said these stats are not representative of a GK's quality, not to say DDG isn't quality because he is it's just not an argument not be used to say why one GK is better than another.
It doesn't really show anything tbh, if it did then Henessay and others wouldn't be anywhere near this list.
