Longo hatrick sees inter beat Milan 4-3
GUBBIO – There was a cool evening and a perfect playing surface at the Stadio Barbetti for this derby and semi-final of the Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti. After a strong start from the Nerazzurri, AC Milan were the first to find the net thanks to a penalty that Ripa conceded when bringing down Hottor in Inter's box. Comi stepped up to the spot to send the ball past Di Gennaro.
Inter found the equaliser on 24 minutes: a long pass from Bessa released Longo, who cut through the Rossoneri defence to beat Piscitelli. Inter then enjoyed the better of the play for the rest of the half and nearly doubled their lead through Garritano, who just failed to put away Mbaye's low cross. The first half then ended after just a minute of injury time added by referee Ripa.
The second half opened with the Nerazzurri coming out aggressively. In the 56th minute Longo shot from an excellent position, but Piscitelli came up big with a save to deny him. Then in the 63rd minute Inter suddenly took the lead when Romanò headed a cross from Alborno past the Milanista keeper. Milan drew level 10 minutes later when Kysela rose high to meet a cross from Comi and send his header past Sala, who had just come on for the injured Di Gennaro. After 5 minutes of injury time the 2nd half ended with the score at 2-2.
Four minutes into the first period of extra time AC Milan took the lead through Innocenti. Then at the beginning of the second period of extra time Inter again found an equaliser when Longo turned in a cross from Romanò at close range. And just as things seemed certain to end with spot kicks Longo struck once again; in the 2nd minute of extra time the Nerazzurri forward connected with a spectacular right-footed volley, beating Piscitelli and sending Inter to the final of the Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti, which will be held on Saturday 9 June against Lazio.

Re: Inter vs Milan this season...
Merged.
Longo looks like he could become quite the player, he had a very nice cameo against Udinese in the final game of the season. Given the success of your youth side and Stramaccioni's familiarity with these players it would be nice to see some of these talents actually utilised rather than being farmed out to Chievo and the like.

Re: Inter vs Milan this season...
if longo will play a part of our games next season, we should not buy anymore attackers, unless we sell some of ours, lets say we sell pazzo and loan casta, then coutinho and longo will have great chance to play

Re: Inter vs Milan this season...
I think Longo has what it takes to be the next big striker, his performance when subbed in for the last 10 minutes of the Lazio game showed that he has the talent and composure to make it big in Serie A.

Re: Inter vs Milan this season...
Interview from Sacchi I thought it was appropriate to post.
----------------------------
Youth player Samuele Longo has raised eyebrows at Inter, but Arrigo Sacchi believes his is an example of the lack of faith in young players in Italy.
Striker Longo has attracted attention and praise for his performances this term for Inter’s youth team and was handed his senior debut for the Nerazzurri in the final game of last season under his former youth Coach Andrea Stramaccioni.
However, Sacchi believes that at 20, Longo should have already been in the team long ago and that he serves as an example of the wasted talent Italy has in its youth ranks.
“If we were in another country, Longo would be playing first team football by now,” began the former Milan Coach on Mediaset today.
“When I was technical director at Real Madrid, in the field we had six Ballon d’Or winners. Yet, the crowd grumbled because the club were not playing enough Spaniards and especially those from the youth academy.
“In Italy, it is always the same story and the demand is on results, on the immediate - as a director or Coach you know that to lose two games you are liable, would you risk it?”
The former Parma man suggested that the mentality of Coaches is hitting the chances of players like Longo breaking into the first team set-up in the peninsula.
“The problem is that by playing safe like this, they often create devasting effects on the economic balance at the club, not to mention on sporting projects. Longo, he is not only penalised by this situation, but he is an interesting young player, a former Under-19, who has made his debut for the Under-21s.
“He is a modern attacker, has technical qualities and he has the ability to combine these abilities to put himself at the availability of his team.
“He’s a professional guy too, which is another important aspect. He’s a little shy, but a safe prospect.”
Sacchi finished with some advice for his former city rivals.
“Inter must have a game-plan, not one of the puzzles that too often make up Italian teams, who have unfinished projects where the young players suffer the most.
“It is no coincidence that in our quest to get to the next European Under-21 Championships that we had five players from Pescara, because they have this year played at the top of their League throughout.
“And so, I recommend to plan long term, look for a fun game in which aspiring youngsters like Longo and others can come in. It would be much easier for them to express their qualities.”

Re: Inter vs Milan this season...
Everything Sacchi said is true, although the gap between Primavera and Serie A is a big one, being scared to play talent like Longo on the 1st team halts the development of a lot of youth with a lot of potential.
Hopefully Longo will see tonnes of first team action next year.
