Zdenek Zeman new AS Roma manager
Saturday June 2 2012
Zeman: 'Yes, I will lead Roma'
Zdenek Zeman has held a press conference confirming he “will lead Roma next season” and waves goodbye to Pescara.
The Coach helped the Delfini achieve promotion for the first time in 20 years, but is instead heading back to the Olimpico to complete the work he started 13 years ago.
“I am here to thank everyone who worked with the club and who allowed me to lead this team. My collaborators, Franco Mancini, the medics, physios, kit managers and press officers.
“We all made this a great season with their enthusiasm and willingness to work hard. I also thank the people of Pescara, who were always close to the squad.
“What I saw from the open top bus as we drove round the city, I’ve never seen anywhere else. I hope Pescara can stay in Serie A for a long time.
“I will lead Roma next season. I had worked at Roma before and was unable to really do what I wanted, but now I once again have the opportunity to coach an important club. This is my last chance to be at a top-ranking side with important ambitions, as I am no longer a young man,” added the 65-year-old.
“When did I decide to join Roma? I don’t know, I can’t remember... We are very close and have almost completed the agreement, so I doubt anything can change that now.
“I always like one-year contracts so that I won’t weigh on the club if things don’t go well. This is my final press conference as Coach of Pescara, so please let us talk about Pescara.
“How have I changed this season? I think I’m the same, just a little older, having lost a few hairs, but the desire to stay on the field hasn’t changed. As long as my health holds up, I want to keep on trying.
“Pescara will always remain in my heart and I didn’t betray anyone. I had a one-year contract, at the end of which it is normal to make choices. I hope people can still be entertained and have fun in watching the team.”
Naturally, Zeman’s move to Roma means several Pescara stars have been linked with the club, such as Marco Verratti and Lorenzo Insigne.
“No, I don’t think I’ll be ‘poaching’ any talents. I want Pescara to go forward as well as possible. Of course, if someone is no longer of use to Pescara and could be of use to me, then we’ll see what happens...
“I don’t know who will replace me and I don’t want to comment on it. The club will make the decision and I hope they choose the right man.
“I pictured a young and wonderful project here. I’m glad Pescara gave me the chance to put myself back in the spotlight and I hope they can continue to grow. The club also needs help from the fans and you journalists to improve.
“I have lived in Rome for many years and people often stop me in the street asking me to return, both Lazio and Roma fans. I hope they’ll continue to do so next year.”

I like Zeman but I think he's wrong for Roma...Obviously they appreciate nice football but in recent times Ranieri brought the best results.Spalletti also failed in the long run, winning only short term competitions. It takes a LOT to win in Italy with pretty football...
But Roma still The true H&R...

If Zeman can bring out the best of the current players , Roma will have made a fine choice.

The taint of that mistake has been removed with his return to the true representatives of Rome

Fantastic news, hopefully if Milan aren't able to then he'll bring in Verratti from Pescara. I can't wait to hear his press conference just before he plays Juventus again. I just hope that Roma actually give him time.

That's one of the main reasons why Roma opted for him over AVB I reckon, the fans will be patient with him in charge. He is hugely popular in Rome not just by Roma fans but Lazio fans to.That says a lot about the type of person he is.
Also that's why he only signs one year contracts incase things don't go to plan. The man just ozzes class.

I believe the quote is: "28 titles? They should have about 22!"
Can't wait for the storm he's going to kick up next season. Roma will easily be the most entertaining team in the competition, though the concern will be crafting a defence that can cope, even if they're effectively being given a license to concede goals.

Lets hope the game will be early on in the new season and not near Christmas like last season

Re: Zdenek Zeman new AS Roma manager
i would have preferred to see Zeman with a smaller team where there's less pressure to get the results but it would be very interesting project to watch. With Inter and Milan rebuilding and Juve losing their coach (troll) we might as well see Zeman in europe next year if things go well.

Official: Zeman takes Roma job
By Football Italia staff
Zdenek Zeman is officially the new Roma Coach, with confirmation now arrived that he has signed a two-year deal with the Giallorossi.
The capital outfit have been in talks with the Prague-born tactician for the past week and a half and have now confirmed his widely-expected appointment from newly-promoted Pescara.
“Roma announces that it has signed with Zdenek Zeman an economic contract to become Head Coach of the first team,” read a statement released on Monday afternoon through Roma’s official website.
“The agreement, lasting two years, is effective from July 1, 2012 and expires on June 30, 2013, provides for the recognition of a wage in line with the benchmarks in the market.
“Mister Zeman will be supported for the duration of his office by assistant Coach Vincenzo Cangelosi, technical assistant Giacomo Modica and athletic trainer Roberto Ferola.”
It is a return to the club for Zeman, who previously coached the Lupi in the late 1990s. Zeman coached Pescara to the Serie B title last season.
