A simple poll on the UCL SF's? Empty A simple poll on the UCL SF's?

Post by Guest Thu May 10, 2012 10:37 pm

Did the LigaBBVA schedule ruin or hamper the chances of Barcelona and Real Madrid making the final?

People have hinted that because both Chelsea and Bayern were able to fully rest their teams and properly prepare for their upcoming SF clashes they were much better prepared than both Real Madrid and Barcelona who could not do the same. In between their important SF games both Madrid and Barcelona had to play a very hard, grueling and title deciding game. On top of that it was El Clasico a game in which all players put everything they have on the line.

Did the LigaBBVA hamper Spain's chances at an all Spain final? Should the schedule be changed?

I heard reports that Jose tried to have the schedule changed because of what had happened the year before, but they dismissed his complaints as nonsense.

Should the schedule be changed for next year? What are your thoughts?

Personally I think luck goes a long way in the KO rounds and that in football anything can happen and usually does, but I do believe the clasico had some adverse effect on both teams in both games.

Well, it probably didn't help the fitness, on the other hand it's great practice if nobody gets injured, and the morale boost to Real for winning is a positive factor as well.

Gun-to-head, if I head to decide, I'd probably say the Clasico didn't help, but TBH the morale boost from winning could've been just as important, and we might be talking about that now, hadn't Ramos sent his penalty on it's way to Pluto.

Yes it think it did, I don't see how it could be otherwise.. Playing in a game of El Clasico's magnitude would tire out anybody..

you said jose tried to have the schedule changed but they rejected it

he asked who? it was all ligabbva's decision right? or uefa has a say in it?

cause i see no reason to not re-schedule the last el classico
at the top of all it would favour spain the most

rejecting the oppotunity of an all spanish final
doesnt seem legit hmm

LigaBBVA and the Spanish head honchos, they refused to change it, he mentioned it recently.

I don't think anyone on the outside looking in can really say how much of a disadvantage it really is. But I'm pretty confident it didn't help either team.

A simple poll on the UCL SF's? Untitle

Besides the Clasico was'nt really gruelling it was the most one-paced Clasico i have seen in years.

I dont know about Madrid, but Barca can definitely have no excuses they rested a lot of players for the 2nd leg.

You said after the events of the previous year, he tried to have it changed - is the La Liga schedule the same each year?

Last season el clasico was 3 days after the 2nd leg QF and 4 days before the CdR final.

The scheduling is beyond stupid....

excuses lool, madrid would have lost either way, its simple bayern were and are just the better team, and dominated both legs no matter which way you look at it, or what excuses you bring. madrid could of had 2 weeks off and the result would have stayed the same. period. barca have not been their usual selves this season and because of that chelsea took advantage, plus they were as lucky as hell.

Bayern won ultimately, but I don't see how this really proves that they're much better. They wasted lots of chances in both legs, at this point I wouldn't really call it bad luck for Bayern, but rather Bayern lacking efficiency, that's a constant.

If anything the tie convinced me that both teams are pretty even.

They put the clasico towards the end of the season on purpose, to make it 'exciting'

Aren't the ties based on the previous season's finish? That's how Bundesliga works, AFAIK, they go "Matchday #1, place 11 last season against place 4 last season" and so forth. I assumed all leagues do it like that, but I never actually thought about it.

Coming into the game this is what everyone with sense was saying lol.

Game just confirmed that, both teams are pretty even imo, either of them would have been worthy finalists.

Yes, I think its a problem and it needs to be changed. Its too much, mentally more than anything. Physically also.

Do I think that was the reason they both were knocked out? No, I dont, especially not us.

i love that some call it excuses

if it doesnt mean anything according to "many" then why bayern did rest so many of their important players?

it went both ways as a disadvantage to madrid
madrid had an league-win game against a team that will tire you the most
while bayern totally rested theirs

its not like bayern had a normal game and madrid a "tougher" one.
they even rested theirs

dunnow about you but to me this looks like a major reason of the outcome

Why? Bayern didn't rest anyone before the first leg and ripped that defence to shreds just as much.

Lahm wasnt good in the 1st leg, Ribery did excellent but was only part of the machine and Gomez missed sitters and probably did more bad than good.

I read on Marca that both Madrid and Barcelona wants it changed so that El Clasico will be on the October and March.

Both of them feel that the tense schedule affected their result in the semifinals of Champions League.

No, Crim, check chelsea's fixtures around that time.

we were playing two games per week throughout April which included Spurs, Barca and Arsenal all within a week.

you lost because you weren't the best team on the day.
