Through all time, which countries have contributed most to the sport?
England - inventing the game
Italy - making defending an art + EFFICIENT Football
Holland - total football
France - great technicians + beastly athletic players
Brazil - SAMBA = made the game BEAUTIFUL (the WOW factor) + the greatest (attacking) talents ever seen
Argentina - not much really beside Maradona
I honestly don't think the game would be the same without the influence of BRASIL. they are for me the most important nation in history of football.

Uruguay were the first ever national powerhouse. They made the game beautiful before Brazil and Holland.

Re: Through all time, which countries have contributed most to the sport?
I have to make a small, but important, corection: the English didn't invent football, they just made it a professional vocation and created the basic rules that everyone still plays with. The sport that is kicking a ball around had been created in several countries before than.
In terms of tactics and training methods, you can't pick out countries who have revolutionised those fields. Rather, they were invented and developed by certain inidividuals from all over the world and it's those ideas that lead to the most entertaining and amazing teams in football history: Austria, Hungary, Brazil and the Netherlands, to name a few.
In this sense, it'd be unfair to say that certain countries were/are responsible for certain things.

So essentially, England invented the sport.GoonerJay29 wrote:I have to make a small, but important, corection: the English didn't invent football, they just made it a professional vocation and created the basic rules that everyone still plays with. multiple, but with my bias ( I admit), Germany with their youth prospect, and awesome counter-attacks/teamwork.
Although i do also admit that it can get a little dry seeing Germany playing against top teams and end up with something like 1-0

Ok mate, the english didnt invent the concept of using your feet to kick something, they did however invent this sport called football. The games people played before football bore no resemblance to football, and cant be described as forerunners to the sport.

Firstly brazil didnt make the game beautiful, they have a great history but this myth is born out of the fact that they were the first great team to benefit from advancement television and the advancements in the marketing industry. The hungary team of the 40s/50s for example is one of various teams that made football "beautiful", here is one of their games
Not really much besides maradona? how about being one of the major players in the development of "total football"? does di stefano ring a bell to you? how about the history of developing many of footballs greatest improvisers such as sivori, maradona, messi? this is a country where lionel messi is not even widely considered one of the top 3 players in its history.

Uruguay must be mentioned, and after them I'd say Brazil and Holland for making the game entertaining.
