Most spectacular comeback from a long-term injury.
So I read a line from Z in another post in which he said that David "El Guaje" Villa is practically finished thx to his injury. While I believe that that is completely wrong to say BEFORE his comeback, it did make me wonder, who HAS made some amazing comebacks after serious injuries?? You see guys who get injured all the time and stay consistent or even top shelf (best example is Robben) but what have been some awesome comebacks through out the football world?

Has to be Jesus Christ - came back from death, ascended to heaven. Greatest recovery ever.
Wait, maybe Petr Cech is more impressive.

Cech is a bit inconsistant at times but recently has been world Class again.
Plus he was our player of the year last year.

Hopefully its Lucas. He was on his way in becoming the best DM in the world. Injury at a crucial point in his career.

It HAS to be Cassano

it's funny no one has yet mentioned FAT RONALDO...that dude was out for like 3 years on the sidelines and came back from injury winning the world cup for brazil being top scorer and all shit, before being crowned the world's best player. hands down that imo is the geatest comeback from injury from any sportsman...

I'd honestly stick fat ronaldo with Robben. While both have always been good and R9 was clearly better, he was injured every other season. The John Carter of Mars wrote:it's funny no one has yet mentioned FAT RONALDO...that dude was out for like 3 years on the sidelines and came back from injury winning the world cup for brazil being top scorer and all shit, before being crowned the world's best player. hands down that imo is the geatest comeback from injury from any sportsman...

Re: Most spectacular comeback from a long-term injury.
Ronaldo Di Lima comes to mind. The way his knee went out people were saying he was done, then he won the world cup and Balon D'Or.
Valencia too, I thought his ankle injury rendered him finished. Came back strong as ever.
I don't think these are good examples for Villa to follow though since he is 30 now and bouncing back from major injuries just becomes harder when you don't have that motivation to come back.

Re: Most spectacular comeback from a long-term injury.
Ronaldo is up there
Cisse deserves a mention, his career has been a bit up and down. But both those breaks he had were very nasty. Lucky to stillbe playing at all.
Frazer Campbell aswell. Spent pretty much 2 years out of the game. Came back played 2 games and got a couple of nice goals and ended up with a shock england call up.
He has been pretty bad ever since though.
Andy Cole is the one who returned strongest for me though. After that double leg break to go on and score the amount of goals he did with Yorke winning the trebble.

Re: Most spectacular comeback from a long-term injury.
Didn't ADP had a season ending knee injury only to bounce back to where he's at now?
But if it's restricted to this season only, Cassano takes the cake.

Re: Most spectacular comeback from a long-term injury.
Stuart Holden could be another
Wile he was at Sunderland he was attacked by newcastle fans who fractured his eye socket. Once he recovered from that he had a pretty nasty ankle injury which prevented him for ever playing for us.
He then had the injury from johnny evans tackle and further cruciate problems.
Still relatively young though so should bounce back. He was on fire before his recent injury problems. Hopefully he can recover and maybe get a move to a bigger club.
