Roy for England
Roy Hodgson is set to take charge of England's assault on the European Championships after it was revealed the West Brom manager is in talks with the Football Association.
The 64-year-old is the only candidate to have been interviewed for the role, despite many tipping Harry Redknapp to succeed Fabio Capello, after the Italian quit the post in February.
But the FA have not approached the Tottenham boss, who watched his side keep their Champions League aspirations alive with a 2-0 win over Blackburn earlier on Sunday.

Re: Roy for England
I dunno, a mid-table mentality manager might be better for England than a manager that buys into the media hype that surprisingly still exists despite England only winning 6 knock-out matches in International competitions in the half century (and more) since their WC.

Re: Roy for England
so far its only talks, i mean of course dailymail will print something without any hardcore facts.
BUT likeliness is i think he will end up landing the job. definitely not a step up from capello

Re: Roy for England
There was already a thread for this, but anyway, I think Hodgson is a sensible choice.
Redknapp is your "all in - everything or nothing" type of manager, Hodgson's approach is more calculated and careful, which might suit England better (against top teams anyway).

Harry is gutted he generally thought he would be next England manger told everyone in his inner circle what he would do with England. looks like we are stuck with him looking forward to more 30+ injured players and our season crumbling due to lack of rotation but hey it's not honest Harold's fault back in the 60's they played in ankle deep mud footballers these day eurgh.

Re: Roy for England
I heard that Redknapp is going to get sacked anyway at the end of the season.
I am pretty happy that they've gone for Hodgson. He, unlike Redknapp, has experience coaching in Europe, has coached a national team before and has been to two European cup finals, so he should know what managing a national side entails and slight idea of what he is doing.
Redknapp doesn't have that sort of experience, thus would have been sailing blind.

I don't think national team experience counts for too much, it's still football that you play, whether it's with clubs or NTs. But Hodgson's better at organising the players and England will need that kind of defensive steel.

Woy is used to overachieving with an average squad so this makes perfect sense.

Re: Roy for England
England now will have their worst manager ever to shoulder the burden of those 3 Lions.
I really can't help but feel bad for you English folk.
I mean choosing between Redknapp and Roy is like choosing between a Morris Marina and an 87' Yugo.
"Cole? More like Konchesky"

Re: Roy for England
Enjoy english peeps ,now you got a better excuse when that inevitable drubbing happens.
Re: Roy for England
Many of us English folk are actually okay with this, and the majority of people saying he's not the right man are, mysteriously enough, Liverpool fans.
No denying his time at Liverpool was rather rubbish, but he has been good else where. A bad tenure at one club doesn't suddenly make him a bad manager.

Re: Roy for England
Also he's the only Englishman I know of who has an idea on how other European teams operate.
Good choice and lack of a high profile will do this England team some good.

Bristol
Oddevoid
Orebro
Xamax
Inter (Massive failure here)
UAE (Another excuse laden failure)
Blackburn
Udinese (Fired after 4 horrible months;more excuses)
Finland (Worst percentage of any Finland manager)
Liverpool (Our worst manager of all time, yes worse than Souness)
All clubs he has flopped in
See a trend here? I could name some of his scandinavian wins in which he holds so dear but the fact is Roy only thrives under mid-lower table clubs with little pressure as he is completely out of his depth tactically (or in any other way for that matter) when coming to a top club.
Ask the fans of all those clubs, (unrealistic proposal though) they will tell you of the famous and clueless Bodgson.
As for England, we know just how much pressure there is in managing the 3 lions.
