Montolivo’s Milan deal revealed
By Football Italia staff
The Nazione newspaper has revealed the terms of Riccardo Montolivo’s proposed move from Fiorentina to Milan.
The Rossoneri have apparently already wrapped up negotiations for the midfielder who will join the club on a Bosman in the summer.
The Italian international has allegedly agreed a contract until 2016 with the Diavolo, where he will earn €2.5m a season.
Montolivo, 27, was offered an extension by the Viola on numerous occasions but opted against committing his future to the Franchi outfit.
The former Atalanta player has scored two goals in 28 League games so far this season.

While I do expect it to be true, I will wait for official confirmation from the club or Monty himself. Anyways any addition to the midfield is always welcome

Not official but it's most probably true!
Though I am not overly excited about this move, Montolivo is a welcome addition. He will add depth and a some amount of creativity to our Midfield.
But he is, in no way, the solution to our creativity issue in the midfield and we still need at least one new world-class or potentially world-class Midfielder!
Good news, nevertheless!

I always found him to be overrated but I'm not complaining (especially since it's free). Hope he proves me wrong!

Re: Officially Official :P
not that much excited to have montolivo in our team. only reason i can be content is because he is free. he is having horrendous season, in national team as well. well if he is to join, i will save my full judgment on him after playing for a season because some players can express themselves well in new environment, just like nocerino.
aquilani is a much better player but he is always injured and then he is out of form after that. so having montolivo might help on that cause. plus im satisfied if he were to join and rumour is true that his salary demand is also pretty satisfactory for us to dish out.
lets see how he does if he indeed join us.

I think he's better than Aquilani. Glad he'll be a part of Rossoneri squad soon.

Re: Officially Official :P
For a lot of reasons this is an excellent purchase. I'll mention a few below:
1. Montolivo is a real warhorse.
Riccardo just never gets injured! It's really amazing that, since 2006-07 during which the guy became a regular, he's only missed 20 games (out of 190 overall) in Serie-A, while he's played every single European match the Viola have had.
Any follower of my mighty Milan would understand how much that means to us, with so many old and/or injury-prone players in our squad, having such a consistent performer is simply fantastic.
Plus, he's one of Italy's most energetic Footballers.
Maybe not as tenacious as Gattuso or as strong as Ambrosini, but he is very lively and covers a lot of ground.
2. Montolivo is versatile.
He plays trequartista for Italy, used to be a right-sided midfielder before, and now is the anchorman for his team. All this means we can count on him to fill plenty of holes here and there every now and then.
He isn't the enforcer Van Bommel is, he's not as creative and precise as Pirlo and doesn't possess Kaka's directness and pace, instead, he's a jack of all trades who excels right around the center of the pitch and is truly reliable.
3. Montolivo is Italian.
This one at first might not sound exactly like a great attribute, but when you think about how weird teams like Inter and Arsenal look with so many foreigners, you'll come to realize he will add a bit of that Italian touch and tactical intelligence the likes of Boateng don't possess.
4. Montolivo is Free.
Yeah yeah yeah, we've had flops like Flamini, Taiwo and Onyewu, but hey, Montolivo is worth at least 10m and even in case he flops badly, we can pocket a good sum out of nothing.
But if he fulfills our expectations like VB, Nocerino, Cafu and Stam, who's got the balls to say he wasn't yet another Galliani masterstroke?

Re: Officially Official :P
Very nice post Iras , very precise. I'll just add a few details ;
Montolivo has the football IQ and the technique required to improve our built up play in Serie A , in which enough times this season has looked quite lithargic , or kindly too simple , against teams who chose to wait for our attacks.
Not only that but his long range efforts , such as long range crosses to Ibra inside the box or switch of play from which players like Abate feed off, will add one more dimension to our football . And i am hoping he can be , or at least become ,
our free kick-man .
Honestly , doesn't Allegri get that Ibra's style on free kicks isn't working (sucks) ? I am tired of watching Ibra or Silva blast the ball to the opponent's wall all the time. The rest who can take some good free kicks are Seedorf -who doesn't play enough anymore- and perhaps Cassano//Pato , but these players just have a good shot , it isn't their thing to score from free kicks.
We need someone to do what Pirlo or Ronaldinho did , all the big teams have their specialist at this aspect of the game. I would like Montolivo to become that player for us , as of the current squad stands.

Very good point about the free kicks Dante. I recognized that too, Ibra and Silva have amazing shot power but their accuracy and curve isn't so great. I can see Monty definitely being a specialist in that area which we definitely need.
When teams line up for a free kick up close you feel in danger but when Milan get a free kick I don't really feel we have that much of a chance.

Anyone but Ibra . As much as i rate him , free kicks aren't meant for him. Let's hope either Montolivo or someone new take advantage .

I predicted Nocerino before we were linked to him, then Predicted he would do well with us. I'm saying right now, Montolivo will be a regular starter in our team. Hands down

I really feel the same way about Monty, at first I was meh, but it seems a lot of players pick up their game wearing the Rossoneri shirt and I hope he does the same!Milantildeath wrote:I predicted Nocerino before we were linked to him, then Predicted he would do well with us. Re: Officially Official :P
I think he'll be on rotation with some midfielder
Allegri loves his battling midfielders and I think we'll see a 3 man midfield of them with Boateng as AM on many occasions next season (providing we replace Rino, Ambro, MVB)

Re: Officially Official :P
I agree that Allegri will keep Boateng at the peak of the midfield, however I do believe a more technical midfielder such as Montolivo or Hernanes could tie down the secure spot that Seedorf would have if he weren't in his mid-30s, however it depends on whether another MVB alternative arrives or a more creative option. If we bring in someone of Hernanes' ilk then I could only see Monty establishing himself in a CM position, fighting perhaps with AA. If someone who is quite industrious arrives though, then he might get a full time job at the base with Nocerino/a new arrival at his side. I don't think Montolivo has entirely shaken his Bambi tag, however he has improved himself which deserves credit.

Any news on him?
when is he expected back or if he's near recovery?
