26 league apps, 2 goals and a handful of assists

Hardly played 'well' he's not even a first team player now.

in Italy most ppl is skeptical about Insigne in WC after this year .. as Tom said, it wasn't a year so positive for him..

if then we consider the fact that Giuseppe Rossi is also the best Italian CF  ,because Rossi is definitely this , no one can be satisfed about this choice.

2nd World Cup  in a row missed for Rossi in career, both controversially , although in 2010 it was even more incredible because there were not physical reasons .. but most call up were nonosense that time.

An unlucky player.

Is it me, or is it always Italy who just insist on bringing average "non star name" forwards to the WC while sitting at home is a quality performer?

I guess this time they have Balo, but I remember in 10' I think it was Quagliarella (who did score a wonderful goal tbf). Gilardino, Iaquinta and Di Natale (not average by any means but didnt perform well iirc) while leaving Totti, Miccoli (20 goals that season), Rossi himself and Cassano at home.

Tbh Quags always impressed with the NT. But yeah this is just absolutely ridiculous

Rossi is twice the player Insigne is, much better than Immobile and in all honesty should have been starting games let alone missing the team

Isn't Rossi not going due to lack of fitness though?

Lack of fitness is an awful excuse, looked fine yesterday. If he can't play 20 minutes at the World Cup as a sub then why can he go for 70 in a pre-WC game and look fine?

I'd rather have an 80% fit Rossi than Insigne.

he is not perfectly in form , but he was improving (and  he would have done further in this 2 weeks) and then  he can be decisive also playing few minutes , most talented player in that role. and insigne won't be even starter

Can't believe Insinge is in the list. Rossi out was a wild shock to me, especially since i can't see Italy using a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1

Stephan Kießling, BL topscorer 2013, never called-up by Jogi
Sounds similar to the Rossi omission.

Yeah where the hell is Insigne going to play?

Changing formations to accomodate him would be disgusting, and he's certainly no SS in a 3-5-2.

He shouldn't have made the provisional squad Laughing

LOL you list those two but the sad thing is on top of that, is they were the starting 2 strikers for the first 2 games....

Honestly WOOOOOOOOOOW. I have just been staring blankly for so long. The guy is so unlucky. He will be 31 at the next world cup. Like ... I can't add anything to anything anyone else has said, we're all in agreement... doesn't matter he's not 100% fit

Rossi is not going because Prandelli is not convinced of his recovery, if he had not been injured the past 6 months I'm sure he would walk into the squad.

Looks like it's 100% decided that Cassano - Balo is the go to partnership

I hope Cassano can actually play 70 minutes or so at his highest level in Brazil.

Absolutely stupefied by this decision, especially given how fit Rossi looked versus Ireland yesterday.

Yet Insigne should not be part of the criticism considering he did indeed have a good season and has the penchant for showing up versus the better teams. His obvious playmaking aspect and two footedness must be taken into account.

What strikes me is how the hell that overrated bidone Cerci has continued to pull the ranks as he is not even a winger anymore. Rossi has been a performer for Italia during his appearances, while Immobile has no experience with us and looked underwhelming yesterday.

What injustice has caused Rossi to miss the World Cup via *bleep* Lippi and now Cesare? He's our most multidimensional forward as the omission of El shaarawy already is puzzling.

And then you have Balotelli who while performing for Italia, seems never to be in question or in contention considering he is a automatic starter.

And WTF is with the Roma ostracism? Neal? Flameass?

Heartfelt loss for Giu.

You know what was worse than that. A world class player in supreme physical fitness loved by the entire football world was not taken to two consecutive world cups. I of course mean Argentina's Javier Zanetti in WC 2006 and WC 2010. In spite of that he is the country's record appearance holder. It is one of most hurtful blasphemies in terms of national team selection in the last several years.

Agreed. Then there is the case of Deisler who missed two World Cups in a row due to injury. Poor guy went into depression because of that.
