Although Real Madrid currently has 24 players in its squad, Mou will bring up Jesús and possibly Morata, meaning that, in addition to the two planned signings, he will have to make room in the squad for the newcomers.

Pedro León, who still has a four-year contract with Real Madrid, will remain on loan to Getafe for another season. However, the futures of four others are yet to be decided. There is Gago, who was on loan to Roma with a purchase option, but the Italian club has not followed through on the offer.

The other three are in a similar situation. They have valid contracts and formed part of the first squad last season: Carvalho, whose contract Mou renewed last year; Lass, punished at the end of the season and banned from playing due to a clash with the coach; and Altintop, non-existent virtually all year. The three of them are waiting to get their marching orders.

Despite Alonso not being agile, I think he did well for Spain at Euro 2012.

What's the big fuss about Javi Martinez anyway, I don't think he'll add a lot to the team at the 40 million euros, I'd rather spend that money on a player like Modric.

Real Madrid accountants are still juggling the figures to get Modric. In the main offices at the Bernabéu they are squaring the accounts to be able to sign the iconic Croatian midfielder, as long as the whole operation comes in at under 35 million.

When he comes to Real Madrid, Modric won’t be able to wear either of the two shirt numbers he has had during his career – 10 and 14. The Croatian player started off with Cruyff’s legendary number 14 when he was with Dynamo Zagreb, and carried it through to Spurs, where he still wears it. However, in the Croatian national side, he changed a couple of years ago to number 10, which he has worn in the European Championship.

However, at Real Madrid, 14 is the property of the irreplaceable Xabi Alonso, and at present number 10 belongs to another current – and future – icon at the Bernabéu: Mesut Özil. And so if in the end his signing is completed, Modric will have to start with a new number.

At the Bernabéu there is one number they’d be delighted to hand to him – Kaká’s number 8 , but Kaká is standing firm on his decision to remain (there are three years left on his contract), and his departure, involving €10 million net per annum, is looking like a pipe dream.

One other popular media choice would be for Modric to inherit the number 23 worn by David Beckham. If Real Madrid is seeking a popular shirt number, they never sold more white shirts than when Becks wore number 23 for Real Madrid.

This is all wrong. We are keeping Kaka, Shahin, Khedira, Alonso, Granero, Ozil, Di Maria, and Altintop with keeping in mind that we haven't sold Lass and Gago yet.

Buying Modric is the worst thing we could do right now. Not that he is a bad player or anything, but atm he is not needed.

He isnt better than Khedira at CM because Modric cant defend, and he cant play on the wing

Pointless signing for 35 Mil imo. Ide rather buy someone like Belhanda and take a risk
