Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
With the bookies. Exactly. Which means jack sh*t. Anyone that thinks Brazil were on a level with Spain or even Germany is out of their mind. What great players did Brazil even have? A late 30's Gilberto Silva, an 18 year old Neymar...oh, Felipe Melo! What a star!

I don't remember. I was guessing. I could barely remember anyone they had, that's how average they were (in comparison to Spain/Germany and past Brazil sides).

They were still joint favourites no matter how crap the squad was...

Spain was pretty much in a different league, that was the common thought where I come from tho

Personally before the tournament i thought spain were the favourites and pretty much a safe bet to win. Thought this at euro 12 as well, simply put, they just dominate

Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
Spain were marginal favourites, not clear ones.
Many people, myself included thought Brazil could win. If not for Melo's crazyness they would have in my opinion.
You can pick out a lack of individuals if you like, but what individuals did Chelsea have to win the CL? Or Greece when they won the Euro's?
Team > Everything.
And to suggest Dani Alves, Fabiano, Julio Cesar and Maicon and Lucio were not great players at the time is simply stupid. Not to mention Robinho, who for Brazil has constantly done fantastic.
Then again, you think Neymar was there so I dont think you even have a clue what your talking about.

Yeah,I remember we were favorites alongside Spain. We would have easily gotten past Netherlands if it wasn't for Dunga's ignorance.Kaka played the entire competition injured and when Elano got injured, his substitute was D. Alves....

How do you know? You don't even know who played for them. The bookies as well as the general opinion at the time had both Brazil and Spain as joint favorites. If you remember as well no European team had won the WC outside of Europe and Brazil were perfectly set up to counter Spain if they reached the final.Unfortunetly for them injures to Elano and Ramires and 45 minutes of madness cost them against Holland. But I don't think anybody with any kind of football knowledge can say that Dutch team were as good as that Brazil team.
Neymar The obvious conclusion one can come to after reading your comments is that you didn't watch any of Brazil games. You simply couldn't have watched any of Brazils games or have any knowledge about Dungas team and system if you think Neymar played for them.
On the last page you said Robben should have had a penalty when he got fouled but Robben was 5 yards outside the box when it happened.
Honestly this guy is a unbearable troll,I don't see any reason why I should waste my time debating with clueless people like him,is their a ignore feature on this forum?
Edit: It's ok I found out how to do it.

Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
Im a troll, yet youre trying to tell me that Brazil lost because they didnt have Elano. Oh what a world beater they were missing. I do know some of the team but dont know completely because thats how relatively shitty that Brazil team was. Not a single person i know even put Brazil over Germany or even Argentina. Thst Brazil team was shit, plain and simple.
And check again, Robben was in the box, got practically harassed by Puyol and shouldve had a PK either way.
And holy crap youre telling me im unbearable. Youre trying to tell me Brazil were joint favorites at the WC with a team where they had a past it Kaka, nutcase Melo, pre-prime TS, past it Gilberto Silca, past it Luis Fabiano, i could keep going. Your best players ralent wise were Grafite, Robinho, , Lucio, and the fullbacks. And you didnt even play Grafite much, if at all. Ramires ended up having a good tournament too. I have a Brazilian friend even who didnt even want to watch the games because he expected a disappointment (again, after 2006).
Youre also saying that Brazil were better than Holland yet Holland outplayed and beat them. Holland was missin i believe Heitinga and his backup was completely at fault for Brazils only goal. And the "no european team ever won if it wasnt in europe"? Really? Now you look desperate. Spain lost their first match and no team that lost their first match ever won. Records arr meant to be broken and dont hold credibility in a discussion of favorites. Germany and Spain were bith clearly better teams than Brazil. Anyone who knows anything knows that. Even Uruguay wouldve beat Brazil, and Netherlands actually did. That Brazil team were favorites on rep.alone. Spain and Germany were on another level. And this is.coming from someone who actualky likes Brazil and cant stand Spain.

Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
Holland outplayed us?lol.we raped them in the first half.We raped them so much that at ht I was 100% sure we were in the semi vs uruguay.Elano isn't a world beater but he was beasting in the wc.Same for Luis Fabiano. And Robinho. And Ramires.Thiago silva and Gilberto Silva weren't even starters. We weren't favorites because we had the best players but we had one of the best teams and were the most in form NT.We had won the past 2 copa Americas, the past 3 confederations cup and we finished unbeaten in the world cup qualifiers. You should never judge if a team if favorite just by names, look at argentina.

Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
Brazil raped Netherlands? You need to check what the meaning of that word is. Seleção had one clear cut chance (Robinho's goal) and that was due to extremely schoolboy defending. And let's face it, Brazil choked right after they conceded the first goal.
Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
One clear cut chance? Then how did stkelenburg make the second best save in the wc in that game? if you don't think we destroyed them in the first half then watch the game again, kaka and robinho were rolling on their defenders and robben/sneider were kept quiet

Re: Xavi vs Pirlo
Ye it was a game of two halves that's for sure,if Stelkenburg doesn't make that amazing save off Kakas shot when it was already 1 - 0 I think that would have wrapped the game up.At half time I don't think anybody seen Holland turning it around,Brazil were really dominant in the 1st half playing some brilliant football.I still don't know what happened to Brazil in the 2nd half,Cesar messes up on a simple cross to make it 1 - 1 and suddenly Brazil went to pieces.
I think it was partly because of Hollands spoiling tactics which got under Brazils skin.In the 2nd half Van Bommel and De Jong were constantly fouling and breaking up play without been punished properly while Robben gave Robinho and co a lesson in diving,he really pissed Brazils players off 2nd half with his diving(I remember at one point Robinho of all people was pleading with him to stop ) and playacting which ended in Melo lashing out at him.

I think you misunderstood,I meant Melo kicked out at Robben because Robben was going down easy/diving all game.If I remember correctly Robben went to ground off one of Melos tackles/fouls(don't remember if it was really a foul or not) and started to roll around like he was in agony so Melo lashed out by kicking him studs first.

And naturally that argument brought up the argument of whether Xavi was better than Pirlo. How the f*** did we get to discussing Brazil?

One final dance for the two old timers?
Its a shame (though quite right) that Xavi wont play much in this one so it wont be a true final battle, but still.
