When will English and Italian teams take the Europa League seriously?
The last 4-5 seasons, with exceptions of Fulham and Fiorentina, who reached the final and semifinals respectively, teams from these 2 leagues don't go too far (perhaps intentionaly?)
Teams like Tottenham, Aston Villa, Juventus, Roma, Palermo etc. don't field their strongest lineup.......
why is it the case?

As soon as it pays more.
The CL winner gets 20mil
The EL winner gets 5mil.
That's the reason why.

They take it seriously. That's an excuse by the fans.

I don't think it about not taking it seriously, the gap between the top teams in Italy and the lower ones use to be huge, so the ones that play in the EL are mostly not that good, including AC Milan when we played in the EL, we played our starting XI and yet got knocked out. Same for Juventus last season.
As for the BPL I don't know.

they take it seriously. Mancini fielded his best team vs Sporting and still got knocked out. United fielded their best and got knocked out. Don't bring this bs here, PL is just low in quality this year.

Its all about money. Why not just give the EL winner a lot of money??

But yeah, El is looked down on as an inferior competition. I bet Eto'o, with his combined wages, image rights and sponsership deals, makes more in three months than the winner of the EL gets. That's just sad

Money its stupid EL should have more incentives, you get bellends like Liverpool who treat it like turd so they can try get back into CL.

So how do you explain when teams field second string players and resting some starting 11 players?
Its about the money and the prestige. Any Italian team would pick to win the Scudetto over the EL

Didn't United and City field their strongest teams? That seems like a poor excuse.

It's about advertising revenue. If the EL can secure major TV deals then it will pay off more to the winners and runners up.
To do that you need stronger teams to play lol

Re: When will English and Italian teams take the Europa League seriously?
I think the teams outside the top 4 a.k.a teams with less depth dont take the EL seriously as it is not worth their while like people have mentioned here.
Not the case with Spain and other countries though. The reason for this difference in approach is not very clear though as teams outside top 4 in Spain also have lower depth and the 3rd and the 4th spot in La Liga is one of the more hotly contested ones in Europe.

Because it's a shet competition that's why. They will never, unless it's some small team and it's the only trophy they're competing for.

sure, for the CL the players are more motivated, but at the end of the day it's nothing more than a poor excuse by some fans. period.
