And he does something I don't like: everytime he gets the ball, his first move is to fake a drible and stop the play. I don't like that. I prefer players that either pass fast, or if they see they can exploit a gap, they move fast forward. He doesn't seem to drible at fast pace, but slow one.
On the bright side, I like that he can work in tight spaces and seems to have a good pass and great ball control.
I think that sanchez is the fastest in the team, well atleast its between him and afellay.
After watching him today, I don't think he is that fast. I'm pretty sure he is not faster than Messi or Villa.

I don't agree. Yeah, he driblled a couple of times Marcelo and some other Madrid players, but that's not really important to asses the performance. I liked more Pedro in his 15 minutes today. Alexis has a long way.
Thiago also dribled half Madrid a couple of times, and I think he was quite bad. Same with Alexis. Dribling is just a small part of the game.

Re: "El Niño Maravilla": Alexis Sanchez
free_cat be honest, you have something against him because rosell bought him.
Apart from dribbling past ramos once and when he should have won a penalty, pedro did nothing to say that he was better in the few min he got than sanchez.
And in todays game, how many times did messi/sanchez/villa have a chance to showed their speed?
And i dont think it's fair to judge sanchez how good he is from just this game. Remember its his debut and against real frakking madrid(!!!) and none from barca(i thought iniesta and maybe messi did well) were impressive..

Pedro passed much better than Alexis, could have won a penalty and dribled a couple of times in 20 minutes. More than Alexis in 90 minutes.
I have nothing against Alexis to be honest, and I think his first game was VERY encouraging considering it was his first game and hasn't even trained with us. But he needs a long way to understand our system and especially that he shouldn't drible every time he gets the ball.

Tbh, Alexis didn't really threaten much in the final third, he showed good defensive abilities though.

Overall, it was a gd debut!
He is a hardworker.. his workrate is great with greatskills & dribbling abilities..
better passing, better finishing.. ==> World Class..
Alexis is still 22 & with time, training with Barca will help him improve alot..
Let's wait & judge him in December ( laliga Classico)!!

Henry, Villa, Afellay, Mascherano, Adriano... they all needed the time... others like Ibra did not even make...

free_cat you have to refresh my memory, apart from destroying ramos, which other times did he dribble past player or make a good pass

Re: "El Niño Maravilla": Alexis Sanchez
Slick, tricky and could be a real nightmare for defenders. I loved the moment when he turned Marcelo inside-out. Hard work and determination were commendable. Passing needs to improve a little though.
Re: "El Niño Maravilla": Alexis Sanchez
Alexis was great... really good debut. Most players debut against Chivas or NY Red Bulls or some sh*t team, he got a baptism of fire and didn't look out of place at all. No point focusing on any negatives at this point, he's still not even match fit or sharp, no one was passing well.
He's going to be a real handful and will really push Villa and Pedro. I like the fact that he likes to dribble his man, thats why we bought him, so we have another player who can create space in the final third. Pedro and Villa don't do that, they exploit space, when there's little room, they find it difficult.
He is fast too... disagree again. He's got great acceleration (only Messi's is better) and a good top speed too (maybe only Adriano and Afellay are faster), with this combo he's the player we needed.
Btw... a football analyst I follow who specialises with Barca believes Pep bought Sanchez specifically to counter the high-press tactic. He believes that when teams put on a high press, there is generally space in behind, but Barca haven't always had the speed and quick feet to counter quickly. With Sanchez, now they have a new option who can be a real threat on the counter. Puts another thought in the minds of the opposition.
Thoughts?

I think Pep brought him because he brings something that Pedro and Villa don't, like you said with the dribbling skill and the change of pace. He's much better as you said at creating space but not nearly as good of a finisher.

Yes, this is kind of like I think. I find Fozz's idea interesting, but I think its more about when teams are very stubborn/parking the bus. Alexis can beat players and is capable of magic to unlock defences. He creates space which isn't there. I remember Dani agreed on this.

Good to see that he is that kind of player, since we have had troubles in the past against tightly parked busses.BarcaKizz wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:I think Pep brought him because he brings something that Pedro and Villa don't, like you said with the dribbling skill and the change of pace. Re: "El Niño Maravilla": Alexis Sanchez
Did i just read that Sanchez is not fast ?
He is one of the Fastest players of what i saw of him in SERIE A...
Plus he has that great burst of Acceleration along with his exquisite dribbling skills and imo he is quite deadly in one on one situations...
I desperately wanted him at juve but his hefty price tag hindered us from going after him...
He'd really be an asset for Barca and should start ahead of Pedro or Afellay for that matter..

Re: "El Niño Maravilla": Alexis Sanchez
Dont judge Sanchez's pace and passing from last night he has alot more than that his lack of fitness clearly showed....
Imo his passing is better than Pedro's and he's quicker and more agile on the ball than Pedro off the ball is debateable tho...
Overall it was a good performance and showed alot of promise, work rate and pace which i knew all about having watched Udinese all last year....
Also another thing why we should'nt judge him is because Madrid dominated last night and he did'nt have a great deal of opportunities to show his worth lets wait iam sure he will be a fantastic signing for Barca.

Re: "El Niño Maravilla": Alexis Sanchez
Yeah..And if we remember at the start of the season ,he was deployed as a right winger and wasnt productive enough and terribly flopped against us too when we played them at their home ground..
Its when Guidolin used him as a trequartista or behind the striker where he really excelled last season finishing the season with 7 assists and that is a great outcome for a player who was primarily a goal scorer last season(and that was down to his improvement in his finishing)..
He is more a CR7 kind of player..More of a goalscorer than an assist man..

I wasn't impressed.. but I am sure this was not nearly his best performance. Also, he looks like the player that would cut in, and not be as effective on the right side.

Big shame.
In the somewhat limited time he has played, he has been clearly better then Pedro and Villa.
