Same, I never thought Schweinsteiger would have basically retired at 30. It's sad. Loved him in his prime.

He didn't retire. He was brought in as van Gaal's right hand man on the pitch at a point when van Gaal was already a dead man walking, benched by Mourinho in favour of Fellaini and the new 120m € mule midfielder, and they tried to forcee him to go join Middlesbrough or Benfica or some nonsense.

Of course he wasn't going to do that.

I wasn't implying that he 'retired' by choice. It was a shitty deal, but in the end that's what happened. He pretty much hasn't played football in 2 years and now he is going to the MLS. That's what I meant by saying he basically retired at 30, for one of reason or another, his football career pretty much ended when he left Bayern.

The hate on my adoptive home city, Detroit, and the city I grew up near, Chicago, saddens me. Great cities with tough, hard working people. Shouldn't write them off just because of what gets said in the news about them.

I hope Schweinsteiger sees and embraces what makes Chicago such a cool city.

IIRC Chicago alone has more murders per year than the entire UK, but so does LA and no one talks shit about them.

But I agree, when I went there I liked it a lot. Might not mind living there either.

Scored on his debut today. A fine header.

Looked sharp on the ball. Dax McCarty still bossed the midfield, but this was encouraging.

If he settles in, he could give the league at least 2-3 good seasons. Maybe 4.

Meh my interest in MLS is cursory at best. Mostly because Chicago has been awful for so long. I just don't follow it as closely as I used to.

Might change if Detroit get a team, but with the funk this city's sports teams are in right now, it would probably be no better than Chicago tbh.
